Notes – Highest award? (2008)[edit]

The Baden powell award is not part of the mainstream scouting movement, only the "Baden Powell scouts" a group founded in 1970.

Actually the Baden Powell Award is a part of mainstream Scouting in Australia. Not every country has got rid of Rovers, you know. David Ham 28 May 2006.

You are thinking of the Baden Powell Scouts that were formed in response to the idea that modern scouting was moving away from the ideals as set out by Baden Powell. You are quite correct that they are not 'mainstream' in that they are not a member of WOSM. The Baden Powell Award is an award named after the founder, presented to scouts aged 18 - 26 who are members of a scout association recognised by WOSM. While the Baden Powell may not be as prestigious as the QS, it is the more senior of the awards- certainly in Australian scouting. Proberton (talk) 04:19, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I am not sure it is a Royal Charter either. They are given to organisations. In fact is this sentence "The Queen's Scout Award is actually conferred by the monarch via Royal Charter; you are not awarded the Queen's Scout Award, rather you become one" correct. I see no evidence for it in the links provided. Where does it come from? POR says you are awarded it. The Monarch agreed to send a certificate to those who qualify, and that only goes back to the award becoming part of the Senior Scout section in 1946. --Bduke (Discussion) 08:09, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

British Commonwealth? (2006)[edit]

Should the reference to "British Commonwealth" instead be Commonwealth Realm? The link goes to that article. Likewise, is the award given by the British Monarch, or the Head of the Commonwealth (who at present happens to be the same person)? I might be British, and a monarchist, but citizens of other Commonwealth nations might object to being referred to them and their head of state being referred to as British.– Bazza 7 at 16:25, 2 February 2006.

Removal Of "Harder" claim (2006)[edit]

As a holder of both awards I agree with this claim! However, this is a personal opinion and therefore has no place on Wikipedia.– 88.111.53.112 at 21:34, 24 August 2006.

Australia: Small Crown badge after 1968? (2007)[edit]

From late 1980 this Queen's Scout wore the small Crown on his sleeve while a Rover and Cub Leader. And other Queen's Scouts I knew wore the small Crown while they were Rovers until they achieved their B-P award. Welcome to Wikipedia. You need reliable sources rather than hearsay. Whilst there will always be Queen's Scout awardees (1952–2022), there will be no new awardees after the next few months. The future awardees will be King's Scouts, as indicated in the article (with citations that you can read and get further information) (my emphasis):

Whether the award recipient is a Queen's or King's Scout depends on who is the current monarch of the Commonwealth realms.

(United Kingdom) Upon the succession of King Charles III in September 2022, the award in the United Kingdom was renamed 'King's Scout'.

(Australia) The award may be renamed from 'Queen's Scout Award' to 'King's Scout Award', with the approval of King Charles III following his succession in September 2022.

The various associations indicate the title retention of existing awardees, even following an award name change. The same process occurred in May 1952, from Edward VIII to Elizabeth II.^[1]

Given the heir (Charles III), and next two successors (Prince William, Prince George), are male, the name of the award in 70+ years depends on Prince George of Wales' first born being male or female.–Q8682 (talk) 02:16, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
