ref ?[edit]

I have had a go at adding some ref, and cleaning the old ones up, but a few of the past posts have the following error message:-

Cite error: Invalid -ref- tag; no text was provided for refs named DS

The DS ref posts look like someone has tryed to link sections up, but I am not 100% if that is the case. Will come back on later when I am signed in and try and clean up the old ref tags a bit more.

The artical needs more ref. posted to suport the facts on this page.

Newbury ?[edit]

Is he really from Newbury? Where on earth does that accent come from then? I always assumed he was a scouser.

He was born in Walton, Liverpool and the article now states this. But it seems he did live in Berkshire for a while before moving to near Wem in Shropshire. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:54, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Alcoholic Cheggers[edit]

No mention of his alcoholism that was so widely reported at the time, and which he himself has acknowledged? Guv2006 08:56, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This sentence doesn't seem to make sense:

When tabloid stories emerged, Chegwin addressed his alcohol problems and it was during this time that he suffered alcohol problems, which he has since overcome.

Divorce[edit]

Does anyone have a reliable source for the date of Maggie Philbin's divorce from Keith Chegwin? The two pages disagree over the year. Longwayround 08:26, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace[edit]

The article states Cheggers as hailing from Newbury but are you sure it isn't Liverpool as the IMDB states?

There is a birth of a Keith Chegwin registered in Liverpool registration district Q1 1957, mother maiden name Wells. Intriguing things is that there is a birth of a Janice B Long registered Q2 1955 Hendon with mother's name Humphreys. There are a number of sources on the Internet as well as a clue in the I newspaper Jumbo Crossword (28th August 2017) that give his birthplace as Bootle and not Walton as stated in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.25.81.159 (talk) 18:06, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Joke thief[edit]

Granted there's a source, but does it have to be worded in such a way?

"Chegwin has developed a large following on the social networking site Twitter, largely by passing off the jokes of "jealous comedians" as if his own."

I've broken this sentence into two: firstly to say that he's developed a large following on Twitter (which is indisputable), and secondly that he's been accused of stealing the jokes of other comedians (we can't just state it as fact that he has done so). Smoker[edit]

The BBC audio "gaffe", if such it was, has received quite a lot of attention. I think we can all agree it's trivia. Although I also see that Sky News has reported Chegwin's long-time colleague and friend Tony Blackburn saying "He did used to smoke a lot, even at the airport, he'd have to go and smoke in those little areas... On the airplane he used to suck on this stick which gave him nicotine." I wonder if and when Chegwin gave up smoking and if this is mentioned anywhere in a reliable source. Hey again, Ritchie333. Did you know that the image also appears at Getty Images, which is against rule #7 of WP:NFCC#UUI? Meanwhile, I'm still on a journey to have an image of him freely licensed by one of copyright holders, like this one. George Ho (talk) 00:05, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

According to WP:NFCC, Rule 7 is "Non-free content is used in at least one article" - did you mean something else? (Or is your issue that The Sun ripped off Getty Images without attribution, in which case - why am I not surprised?) @Ritchie333: Oops, I meant WP:NFC#UUI: "A photo from a press agency or photo agency" is an unacceptable use (unless the photo itself is the article subject). BTW, File:Keith Chegwin.png is already deleted. George Ho (talk) 17:37, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Got it - the original news piece said "Dave Hogan" with no other attribution. I should have figured. It's not exactly uncommon for newspapers to just rip off other people's photographs without permission. In any case, deletion is the correct action here as you said.
