Number injured[edit]

Current "Injured 20" may be incorrect. https://tass.ru/proisshestviya/11339895 - 21 people were taken to hospitals; 18 children, and 3 adults were hospitalized (6 children in ICU https://tass.ru/proisshestviya/11340343). `a5b (talk) 11:03, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Update from ministry of schools about hospitalized victims: 14:17. Минпросвещения сообщает, что из 21 пострадавшего 13 находятся в состоянии средней тяжести, восемь — в тяжелом. = reports that out of 21 victims, 13 are in a state of moderate severity, eight are in severe. Some victims may be not hospitalized, there were ..32 people were injured report from official TASS news agency.`a5b (talk) 11:22, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The update from A5b comports with what is being reported by the BBC. (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-57069589) It is possible that the number of individuals killed may increase given the number of severely injured persons. Jurisdicta (talk) 22:59, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kazan school shootingKazan school massacre – A gun was not the only weapon used, an IED was set off. Elliottharvickfan94 (talk) 03:12, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Remember, kids: when it happens in the USA, it's a "shooting". If it happens anywhere else in the world, it's a "massacre". That's because the USA is the only place where mass shootings happen. And never forget that Big Brother is watching you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.70.13.107 (talk) 10:51, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Are many mainstream media sources calling it a massacre? Jim Michael (talk) 10:55, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    Every single source I have read calls it a shooting. Kellis7 13:12, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose isn't being called a massacre in mainstream sources. Probably does need a move though as it wasn't just a shooting. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:09, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose until massacre (which is a loaded word) becomes WP:COMMONNAME in reliable sources. We have a specific name for such events, school shooting. Brandmeistertalk 12:52, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose No sources I have read (which is too many) have said massacre. Almost all say shooting when referring to what happened in Kazan. Kellis7 13:13, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's what the media does. They call it a massacre as a means to make it seem like it was the worst thing that has ever happend. It is nothing more than hyperbole. Exaggerating the whole thing. Kahnew (talk) 18:10, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, you must have misunderstood. No media sources are calling it a massacre. Most news sources I read call it a shooting. Hope that clears it up! Kellis7 18:15, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME and the other voters' concerns. Kazan school attack sounds better in this context. Love of Corey (talk) 18:12, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per above. In English-language media, it is widely described as a school shooting. Mellk (talk) 21:16, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Brandmeister and Kellis7 -Gouleg🛋️ (StalkHound) 15:39, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Massacre is very much a loaded word and I would hardly consider one gunman a massacre. BeesBeesBeesDotCom (talk) 19:51, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Huh? UserTwoSix (talk) 00:13, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose This is not a massacre by its meaning, and no sources are calling it as such. That would also be heavily biased, so to speak. --Integer123 (talk) 05:04, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per: WP:COMMONNAME. LOMRJYO(talkcontrib) 15:58, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose This isn't a massacre, and I haven't seen it called that in any sources. YoungstownToast (talk) 01:48, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per common name and avoid emotive language. WWGB (talk) 07:14, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Wikipedia has never called something a “school massacre” and it never should. It’s editorializing. Trillfendi (talk) 13:44, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It does if that's the common name, such as Columbine High School massacre. Jim Michael (talk) 16:37, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Media sources aren’t referring to the shooting as such, therefore the current name should apply. R. J. Dockery (talk) 03:59, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose and SNOW close. Per all above, there's clearly no basis in policy for a pagemove. 174.212.227.187 (talk) 05:03, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per WP:SNOW. Fakescientist8000 (talk) 01:56, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Birthdate 9/11/01 of the perpetrator could lead to conspiracy theories[edit]

i bet my butt of, that this willl become the usual topic: Find a source!— Preceding unsigned comment added by Lovemankind83 (talkcontribs)

We have a source for it in the article. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:10, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Uhhhhh...okay...? Love of Corey (talk) 18:20, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing, prob need Western RS[edit]

" .. life imprisonment (equal to capital punishment in modern Russia) ... " - so, in the Russian Federation, that's a cognomen for "sentenced to death"?? Something's not correct here. Can we find an alternate source? This is a very widely-covered subject and English sources should be extremely plentiful.50.111.52.57 (talk) 20:59, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. English sources have dropped this right after day one. The only sources that will continue to cover this are obviously Russian. Love of Corey (talk) 22:30, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
They lost interest when they realised that the gunman doesn't appear to have had an ideological motive. Jim Michael (talk) 22:41, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Only 2 days old. Pretty bloody recent.50.111.52.57 (talk) 13:32, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't say that. From my observations, U.S. sources don't really cover international mass shootings too much. Love of Corey (talk) 22:50, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is true. Russian and local sources will give us the most immediate events. Local can cover it indefinitely. I noticed this with the 2019 Virginia Beach shooting that I am still getting updates from the Virginian Pilot. Kellis7 23:25, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. Love of Corey (talk) 23:36, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand Russian, nor its law, but I interpret this as saying that his crime was deserving of the death penalty per that statute, but a statute since then has overruled the death penalty, so instead it is replaced with life imprisonment. I do agree that the wording is highly "huh?" and someone who understands the law better should make it clearer. Plus, a Google translate of the source says nothing about "capital" or "death" at all Unknown Temptation (talk) 19:46, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
