First 2 are good, 3rd archives a dead link. I'll mark the checked flag to true, delete the dead link, and later on I'll come back and try to find an equivalent link to add.Pleonic (talk) 13:11, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Relative lack of information[edit]

This is an old article, but I noticed some information missing that could flesh it out a bit.

  • The article lacks much background information on any of the three men. Employment records, financial status, and personal lives. Pre-existing medical conditions for Batten are mentioned (and he was apparently not in good health), but no such mention for the Tunstead brothers.
  • Lack of information on the background of the catamaran. Batten owned the ship for about a year, and a previous owner is mentioned in the article. How old was the catamaran, and where was it constructed?
  • The journey was apparently planned for Batten and his wife, with the Tunsteads as late additions. However Mrs. Batten was not among the crew during the final voyage. Why did she not join her husband, as originally planned?
  • The journey had to be postponed for a day due to user errors with the GPS. It is unclear from the text how experienced the crew were in using and programming GPS.
  • The video taken by the crew depicts "land masses", which were later used by authorities to estimate their location at the time of filming. However the Wikipedia article does not name any of these land masses, nor does it give an estimate of their location. Dimadick (talk) 11:26, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • There was no mention of examination of the torn sails. Probable cause, condition of, etc.. With the torn sails looking to be the only problem with the boat, why no forensic examination on them for substances on them, unusual tear patterns, or any other examinations?Timehunter 99 (talk) 10:19, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Experience of the crew[edit]

Hello everyone. Have just made some updates and fixes to the article, plus added some information about the crews experience under the "Crew" section. From everything I have read it appears the crew had very little bluewater or ocean sailing experience, which I believe is a significant issue. Happy to discuss Ilenart626 (talk) 06:26, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
