Fair use rationale for Image:Kalacover.jpg[edit]

Image:Kalacover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Leak[edit]

The entire album has leaked including Paper Planes, as of (at latest) July 30, 2007. So the article should be updated. 71.175.66.65 00:47, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Covers and samples[edit]

I have removed some things such as the Blue Monday sample, because it does not mention this at all in the liner notes of Kala. I left some things like the opening line of "The Turn" because it wouldn't be enough of a sample to feature in the liner notes.XL XR2 01:42, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

XR2 sounds to me like it has samples of UH and Come on from a Blacksheep song, I can't remember what one of the top of my head though. probably Pass The 40 from A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing (album), and I think the sample is from Chi Ali. I can't find my cd to confirm or not, but ya. Anyone else agree? Actually, it sounds like the sample used in The Choice is Yours, which you can hear on the Black Sheep myspace page http://www.myspace.com/blacksheep Samples are hard to keep track of.

I think the samples section should maybe be handled in a different way. The fact that songs use the same lyrics or very similar sounding clips is relevant, but I don't think "Straight to Hell" is directly sampled on "Paper Planes," they just created a very similar sounding riff. These references could be classified more specifically maybe.Atherva 02:05, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reissue[edit]

According to the reissue section, it states "A November 4, 2008 U.S. rerelease was announced, but has ostensibly been delayed." I tried searching for it on Amazon.com, but found nothing on the expanded version. My question is, has it been released in the United States? If not, is there any expected release? BIRD FLU[edit]

Where's Bird Flu? It was the first single released in KALA. Kisses. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.37.154.235 (talk) 14:25, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all[edit]

I'm planning on giving this article a thorough copyedit, eliminating the unsourced/uneliably sourced content, then putting it up for Good Article status. I think ultimately the album and tis related singles could form a Good Topic. Everyone cool with that.....? -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 13:44, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! If you need any help, I'll be glad to help out. DiverseMentality 18:28, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, thanks! Would be happy to help out. Also, if you have time, would you be willing to help copyedit the M.I.A. article? Cookie90 (talk) 10:55, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll certainly take a look at it, with all the good work that's already been done I think all the articles related to her have a good shot at GA or better...... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 11:00, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers! Cookie90 (talk) 11:13, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Artwork[edit]

I removed the bit about MIA posting on her blog that the artwork was inspired by bootleg Nigerian DVDs. She seems to have taken the blog down from her official site, but I found it via the Wayback Machine and all it says (re: Afrikan Boy telling her that he was inspired by Nigerian movies) is "ITS NOT JUS ME WHO GETS bootleg NIGERIAN DVD’S in the hood then". There's no reference to such DVDs having influenced the artwork on this album..... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 10:50, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reissue confusion[edit]

Amazon lists 8 bonus tracks, HMV lists only 6 - I'm royally confused...... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 13:51, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chart data[edit]

The linked aCharts.us page says the album got to number 67 in the UK. This is wrong, so I'd question the accuracy of the rest of their info from outside the US. I'm going to attempt to find sources for the various charts, but any that can't be sourced other than from that page I propose to remove due to its questionable reliability....... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 16:09, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA drive[edit]

Nearly there, I think. Things still to do:

  1. Source a couple of sentences in the "music and lyrics" section
  2. Attempt to source as many as possible of the "year end best albums lists" placings
  3. Attempt to source the remaining few unsourced chart placings
  4. Most important of all - attempt to clarify if the alleged version of the re-issued album with eight bonus tracks as opposed to six does actually exist!!!!!!! -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 13:22, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I think I've now covered everything except the question over the existence of the 8-track bonus disc version of the album. I put it on my Amazon wishlist for Christmas (Amazon being one of the outlets advertising the 8-track version) so we'll see what I get on Thursday ;-) -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 08:04, 23 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good! Thanks! Cookie90 (talk) 04:29, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For info, my wife ordered me the expanded edition for Christmas from Amazon and it has only 6 bonus tracks, so I would venture to suggest that the 8-track version doesn't actually exist..... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 21:56, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

20 Dollar[edit]

Am I wrong in thinking that this track also samples the New Order classic "Blue Monday"? The chords are identical. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lvsxy808 (talkcontribs) 22:48, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The sleeve notes don't say so, and in this litigious age I don't think she'd have got away with sampling a track without crediting it.... -- ChrisTheDude (talk)

When she played the other rooms in newcastle the DJ that she was working with produced the bass line for 20 dollar by taking the tempo on a copy of blue monday down to the right tempo. The performance of this track ended by playing blue monday at the right tempo. I think its pretty clear it is blue mondays bassline. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.39.6.34 (talk) 14:15, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The wikipedia page for blue monday says 20 dollar uses a sample of it. i will try to find an external citation for it though. Its true that it says nothing in the liner notes, Its posible its just the blue monday bass line played at a slower tempo as opposed to a sample. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vibranceuk (talkcontribs) 14:21, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you can find a reliable source then by all means add it in. I was merely trying to make sure that people didn't just add it in based on "I've listened to it and I think it sounds like it", which isn't a reliable source -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 15:09, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Has anyone else noticed that this song contains lines from the pixies song "Where is my mind"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.180.108.82 (talk) 23:08, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article already mentions this. It's listed in the credits on the album itself -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 08:51, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"What I Got"[edit]

No mention is made on the UK bonus disc edition of the album of this track incorporating elements of a Red Hot Chilli Peppers song or of the members of said band having co-writer credits - does the Japanese edition have a different mix/version? -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 14:54, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Release Date[edit]

The release date on the wiki article says 8/8/2007 but this might be incorrect. The album was actually released on 8/20/2007 in the UK and 8/21/2007 in the U.S. Moonlightfocus (talk) 09:42, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The album was released in Japan on the 8th. We use the earliest release date -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 09:55, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
