FA Expansion[edit]

This section is solely for the purpose to discuss expansion and improvements to the article needed for a FA. I'll try to list some areas of improvement and request all to voice their opinions on the same or on something new. Please put your comments under each topic. All the below are just my opinions and I'll leave it for others to comment. ...Msrag talk2me 12:43, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Impact on Bengali cinema: After an impact on Kolkatta as a city, we need to look out for articles highlighting if the recognition, demand and importance of Bengali cinema, artisans & actors have increased significantly or marginally after the success of the film. I think such information can be found in Bengali newspapers and dailies which is out of reach for me. This could count for a separate section under the Impact.
I will try to search, though I doubt if all those minor Bengali characters would see any increase in demand. I remember reading Parambrata and Saswata getting Bollywood offers following the film (and Parambrata refusing those).--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:36, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A film like this must have had impact on the Bengali film industry in some way. However, I do agree that finding sources for this will be tough (especially since this is a slightly philosophical section, and such content tends to get examined much after the film's release). ~*~AnkitBhatt~*~ 17:35, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Bob Biswas: Currently the article contains a reasonable amount of info on the popularity of the character which is not bad at all but I feel this section can be expanded with some more facts and figures. (E.g., Facebook no of likes etc.) and its comparisons with the likes of legendary villain characters of Bollywood such as Mogambo and Gabbar Singh.
yes, especially comparison with legendary villains should be included.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:36, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not really sure that Bob really compares to Gabbar Singh/Mogambo; it takes years for that sort of status to come. However, if you find sources which do make comparisons, go ahead. ~*~AnkitBhatt~*~ 17:35, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Principal Photography: For this, we already have some info included in Portrayal of Kolkata & Allusions and inspirations. Can we neatly exclude some info and add that in photography (or cinematography whatever we call) without duplicating the content. Lets say, "Ghosh's idea of taking the camera behind Vidya and Rana to make the audiences feel that they are Vidya's fellow passenger and are following her in the search," can be included in photography section along with similar stuffs. Here I dont want to give up the entire section of Allusions and inspirations and only want to pull out some details and add in the photography. I can explain in more detail if its not clear now.
This could be difficult. In the allusion and inspiration section, those snippets are used to portray or discuss the exact similarity or inspiration from the alluring film. Chopping that out and adding that to photography instead would make it difficult to appreciate the allusions.
there may be some possibilities, but this is difficult. Moreover, I don't see much significant photography-related stuff I other sections ( I have not read the whole article recently though).--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:36, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Development: I remember reading some time back Ghosh stating that the project was infact very expensive (close to 45 crore) on paper and he had to cut short the budget because of his two previous failures and to create a win-win situation for all. This also forced him to chose Kolkata and Bengali actors. We gotta find this and include it in.
This is already there in the article. I mean not the figure 45 crones,,but that the reason being choosing Kolkata included low budget, mans the ghost of two previous failed haunting him.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:36, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you have exact figures, add them. It increases the comprehensiveness of the article (and hence its readiness for FA). ~*~AnkitBhatt~*~ 17:35, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Durga Puja: The excess use of Durga Puja as the backdrop and its importance and comparison with the protagonist can constitute a separate section. I dont know how much of info can we find about it but lets stay open to it.
I'd rather not support a separate section. Durga Puja is a vital aspect of Kolkata itself, so any research on the Durga Puja allusion should ideally be in the Kolkata section itself. ~*~AnkitBhatt~*~ 17:35, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Improvement plan for a possible (eventual) featured article candidacy[edit]

  • I feel the impact section is too detailed, almost like trivia. The three subsections of this section can be merged into two or three paragraphs.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:27, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

FAC questions[edit]

  • "Vidya and Rana break into the old NDC office hoping to find Damji's files". Why would they break into the old office? Malleus Fatuorum 22:13, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The old office was unused (NDC had moved to a new building, although the film does not tell when the move took place). The unused old office was locked. So, Rana and Vidya, on one night, broke the lock, and entered the old office where they rummaged through old files to find the file on Damji.--Dwaipayan (talk) 23:35, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That starts to make a little more sense, as I couldn't really understand how Agnes could have been killed by Bob Biswas while on her way to her filing cabinet, or what a life insurance agent would have been doing there. So presumably she was assassinated on her way to the old office? Can we perhaps make all this clearer? Malleus Fatuorum 23:52, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Agnes was actually killed at her home. The killer, Bob, who does work as a life insurance agent, doubles as a contract killer. He went to the home of Agnes one evening, pushed the calling bell, and Agnes came out. AT that time, Bob, very politely, asked Agnes if she had a moment to spare. Agnes went ahead to listen to him; and then Bob shoots Agnes.
Agnes might have been able to trace the old files of Damji from the old locked office more easily. So, she was killed. Bob actually got instruction to kill her over mobile phone. The instruction was sent from an unknown sender (which, later in the film, is revealed to be Sridhar).--Dwaipayan (talk) 23:59, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • "He points his gun at Vidya, but is thwarted by the prosthetic abdomen she has been using to fake her pregnancy." How can you be thwarted if all you're doing is pointing a gun at someone? Malleus Fatuorum 00:09, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • so, what happened was Damji and Vidya had a small conversation in a small street which did not have any other people. Damji tells Vidya to hand over the files, and in return he would give her the details of her husband. At this, Vidya tells if he was sure that he would be able to return her husband. He tells yes. Vidya then further asks him to think what he is saying. At this, Damji turns back and attempts to go. But Vidya tries to stop him from the back. Damji hits Vidya who falls in the ground and makes sound as if she is badly hurt in her pregnant belly. Damji pauses and looks at her. Then Damji draws his gun, points at her, and approached near her. Suddenly Vidya, who was clutching her abdomen, draws out her prosthetic belly. Damji looks bewildered. She hits Damji's hand with the prosthetic belly, and he loses his gun. After this, Vidya uses her hair clip to pierce the foot/ankle of Damji. Damji, hurt in the leg, tries to flee, but he limps. Vidya collects Damji's pistol and follows him a few steps. Then she shoots him.
  • so that's what actually happens. If you have Netflix connection, yo can see the climax of the film, it is available online. What do you suggest should be the appropriate wording?
  • may be something like this, .." He points his gun at Vidya, but is bewildered as Vidya draws out her prosthetic belly, Vidya hits him with the prosthetic belly, and he loses his gun, and hits his foot with her hair clip. Hurt, Damji tries to flee, but limps. Vidya collects Damji's gun and shoots him." But this is significant expansion from the present state. Ay suggestion? Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 01:49, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've obviously never seen the film, and I don't have Netflix, but the trick is to summarise that in a sentence or two. What of all that is significant to an understanding of the plot? Vidya goes to meet Damji, but when Vidya doesn't seem to believe him when he says he can return her husband he attempts to leave. Vidya tries to stop him and a struggle ensues during which Damji draws a gun on her. She uses her prosthetic belly to disarm Damji and shoots him with his own gun. Or something like that. Malleus Fatuorum 02:35, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Attempted to restructure this part, following your example. Please have a look. Anad again, thanks a lot for your kind help and guidance. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 03:38, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's much better. I've made a few small changes to improve the flow, so see if you're happy with the result. Malleus Fatuorum 12:31, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

translation of the title[edit]

I remarked to an Indian friend that Story is a stupid title, and he said that a better translation (in context) would be Fable. Looking at Fable, I think Parable might be best. —Tamfang (talk) 19:25, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Upon watching it again and hearing kohāni a couple of times in dialogue, I now think Fairy Tale would be even better. —Tamfang (talk) 18:28, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Don't we need one in the soundtrack infobox?? Also, to add more, we can have an edited (low quality) version of Ekla Cholo Re. That will be too awesome. -- ♪Karthik♫ ♪Nadar♫ 10:21, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

FA criteria[edit]

Article is tagged as needing an update, does it still meet FA criteria? (t · c) buidhe 01:44, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Following up on this, it seems like the update needed tags are still present, and there's no information about the Kahaani 3. I also think the Reception section over-relies on quotations and falls into the "X says Y" trap. Is anyone interested in fixing up this article? Z1720 (talk) 16:39, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
