I am pretty sure that John has died. Date of death Sept 19, 2019. Listed in our union's magazine; latest issue. http://digital.copcomm.com/i/1195764-special-edition-2020/91

However, I cannot find any other corroborating info.

I worked with him in the 1990s. A lovely gent.
