The external link to "John Smoak memorial fund at UF" may be in error. That link points to the page for a memorial fund in honor of a John F. Smoak, who lived in Highlands Co. in Florida and died in 1975 while a resident there. Judge Smoaks was born in Georgia and may have first lived in Florida starting in 1970, based on items in his Biographical Directory of Federal Judges entry. It is hard to be sure, but the Judge and the fund having the same last name may be a coincidence based on his having gone to law school at UF, where that fund was established. Removal of Brayshaw Case[edit]

I have removed reference to the Brayshaw case, as being insignificant. A secondary reason, is that the text about the case is poorly written. Yes, it deals with the First Amendment. But it is a very narrow application...dealing specifically with a Florida statute that, in turn, deals only with an specific (and obscure) activity. The gay rights case had broad application. The Brayshaw case does not. Find references to other cases involving Free Speech where Brayshaw is cited as being privotal in the decision. Brayshaw is not Gideon or Miranda. It may be VERY important to that one Tallahassee activist...and perhaps to the ACLU, but I would be most sad for Judge Smoak if the case turns out to be a highlight of his judicial career. Created new "Rulings on Free Speech" header, to include abbreviated paragraphs about both the Gillman and Brayshaw cases in one related section. This, hopefully, gives proper weight to the individual cases while emphasizing Freedom of Speech. Gulbenk (talk) 01:03, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
