Death date[edit]

The source for his death is dated 31 August 2023 and says "Motorsport UK is saddened to hear of the passing of John Quenby". That does not tell us what date he died. It is probably reasonable to assume that he died in August 2023, but there is nothing to support the idea that he died on 31 August. PamD 11:44, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at his LinkedIn page.Jim Whitaker (talk) 13:39, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If that sources his death date, feel free to add the date with that source. PamD 15:48, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JimWhitaker OK, today is 2 Sept. A post on his LinkedIn marked as "3d", ie 3 days ago, says he died "yesterday". So that message was posted on 30 Aug and he died on 29th, by my calculation. Agreed? PamD 19:19, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I shall have to investigate further. Jim Whitaker (talk) 09:19, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There are several problems with this logic. Firstly, depending on when you read the message vs. when it was posted: you could have been looking at a post which was 3 days and 23 hours old, which LinkedIn changed to 3 days. Therefore the message could have been posted on the 29th. Secondly, assuming it was posted on the 30th. This would be the 30th in your time zone. But the post could have been made in New Zealand where it was the 31st. Or in Hawaii where it was still the 29th (depending on the time of the post). Finally, and most significantly, the time stamp on the post is now weeks ago not days ago. Eventually it will become months. In short, this post is not enough to accurately source date of death SSSB (talk) 17:51, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That is not an independent reliable source, but an incorrect, unsourced, addition to Wikipedia. PamD 13:49, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
