Lord Macaulay[edit]

In 1855, British historian Lord Macaulay, writing about the site of the Battle of Landen (in modern Belgium, not far from Ypres) in 1693, wrote "The next summer the soil, fertilised by twenty thousand corpses, broke forth into millions of poppies. The traveller who, on the road from Saint Tron to Tirlemont, saw that vast sheet of rich scarlet spreading from Landen to Neerwinden, could hardly help fancying that the figurative prediction of the Hebrew prophet was literally accomplished, that the earth was disclosing her blood,[11] and refusing to cover the slain."[citation needed]

McCrae House[edit]

This article should also mention the McCrae House in Guelph (http://guelpharts.ca/mccraehouse/), as well as John McCrae Public School (also in Guelph, http://homer.ugdsb.on.ca/jmccrae/index.htm).

Canada was not part of the British Empire at this point. They gained independance in 1867. They were part of the British Commonwealth. BIG DIFFERENCE.

We were part of the British Commonwealth due to the British North America Act of 1867. The Canada act of 1982 was a revision of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We were still adopting the guidelines put forth by the BNA Act until then. Canada did not gain full independence until 1982, were the Westminister Act of 1931 was just an act giving Canada a more independant role from Britan, ie: The engagement of WWII.

Query About Virtual Cemetery[edit]

Very Poor[edit]

He attended the Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute. He was eventually promoted to Captain and commanded the company. He took a year off his studies at the university due to recurring problems with asthma.
