Easter Rising[edit]

I changed the heading as that is the name used for that article, and is also mentioned as such in that section. --Domer48 (talk) 14:21, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Erm.. no you didn't - I removed the following character '!', i.e. an explantion mark as the usage here was unencylopedic. So that's what you reverted. Diff I've reverted back on the basis that you've misunderstood my original edit. Kernel Saunters (talk) 14:49, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Right ye are a chara!--Domer48 (talk) 14:53, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality[edit]

I think it should be mentioned that General Maxwell was Scottish. People often mistakenly describe him as an English officer, but he was actually born in Scotland. (92.7.25.121 (talk) 10:57, 15 February 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Do you have a reliable source that says he was Scottish? --John of Lancaster (talk) 21:48, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It was mentioned in the documentary "The Man Who Lost Ireland". (92.7.10.1 (talk) 08:43, 7 March 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Maxwell was following orders[edit]

The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

That the leaders of the Easter Rising were to be executed had already been agreed before Maxwell left London. The real controversy regarding the aftermath of the Easter Rising was not so much the executions themselves but the way the trials were conducted in secrecy and the speed of events. (DyerRun (talk) 12:16, 6 September 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Wrong. You have no sources to support this assertion, as there are none. This source says Asquith left Maxwell to his own (very wide) discretion. Then, after some executions had started against lesser figures, Asquith telegrammed, "Four men shot this morning. Feel it my duty to represent grave danger of general and bitter resentment" if such executions were continued. Asquith directed that a "reassuring statement" was to be made by Maxwell.
