Planter?[edit]

What is a planter? I can tell it refers to a job title, but I'm not sure what role the job is. Is it a synonym for farmer?

I began revising this article but do not know when I can finish, since the Arlington local history collection remains closed due to Covid. Most of the Gunston Hall links are dead, and the article doesn't mention his slaveholdings.Jweaver28 (talk) 23:20, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
