Date of birth and surname[edit]

Most sources give his year of birth as 1839. However, the Dictionary of National Biography states that he was born in 1837. His surname appears as McWhirter and MacWhirter, but since his paintings are signed MacW, that would be the version to use.Rotational (talk) 13:31, 18 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
