Verification[edit]

I mean, a lot of this page is fantasy isn't it? For the basketball, the only source is what he has said. Why is there no mention of such a long term International captain by any other source? He's made it up clearly. I mean most of this is only sourced from him and a lot of it can be cross checked and comes up short. Can it be edited to only reflect what can actually be verified? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JamieJonCan (talkcontribs) 18:35, 4 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ABOUTSELF would apply for a lot of this, but most of it seems promotional (hence "unduly self-serving") and likely fails the notability test. Solipsism 101 (Talk) 15:26, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So I see people talking about him getting a belt for defeating Wilmer Mejia, but he in fact was banned during this supposed title fight and the fight is actually an exhibition bout. Also there is no actual footage of this fight ever happening. BoxingGuru1203 (talk) 18:38, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This source, which is cited, confirms it was professional and that a vacant title was on the line. You must provide WP:Reliable sources for your claims. WP:Original research is not allowed. – 2.O.Boxing 19:01, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If were going to use news as sources then this is my source your FightNews one is from 2017 mine is from 2022 so its updated and I can link more if you would like, thanks :) BoxingGuru1203 (talk) 20:28, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That source does not verify anything about this edit. Firstly, it doesn't give his full name or date of birth. You really need to stop reinserting that policy violation. Secondly, it doesn't say anything about the fight in question. So, please do provide more sources that back up your edit. – 2.O.Boxing 21:16, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This source states the fight between Fournier and Mejia was removed from his record. https://www.worldboxingnews.net/2018/11/07/joe-fournier-wba-ranking-no-fight/ Further multiple sources on the page already state he should not have been fighting at the time, There is no evidence the fight should be listed as an exhibiton either because no source states it was reclassified. RicardoSantora (talk) 16:29, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Although it doesn’t say it, that source is clearly going off BoxRec which doesn't decide what is and is not a professional fight. The source also doesn’t say he was stripped of his title or that the fight was changed to an exhibition. None of the sources provided verify the edits being made, especially the restoration of his full name and DOB, which is a pretty clear policy violation. – 2.O.Boxing 16:39, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The source for most of his fights on this page is BoxRec. There are multiple sources on this page also stating he has 10 fights and 9 wins on his record contradicting what is listed now, combined with the sources stating he was banned from fighting at the time and the dubious fight being his fight against Mejia with sources on the page stating this fight is not classed as pro should have it remvoed.
He did hold a title until it was removed but there is no source stating when this happened so that should be recorded. There is no source stating the fight between Fournier and Mejia was reclassified as an exhibition, or if it is possible for that to happen. RicardoSantora (talk) 17:05, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
He was banned from fighting in Belgium, not the DR (or elsewhere). We can't say this and that without reliable sources explicitly stating this and that. If you can find any sources that verify the fight result was overturned (I'm almost certain that's the most that can happen) by the WBA or whoever sanctioned the fight in the DR, then we can add a note to the record table. Failing that, I think the best we could do is change his record to what most sources report it as (9–0–0–1?) and add notes to the infobox and record table. I don't think it would be appropriate to remove it from the table when reliable sources confirm it happened. Pinging @Mac Dreamstate:, here's a stupid one for ya. What do ya think? – 2.O.Boxing 17:49, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Something like 9–0–0–1 sounds fair as the fight did happen, the changes I made were to not have it on his pro record because no where is it listed under professional fights, someone added it to exhibitions which I think was fine but then it got added to his record which it shouldn't be BoxingGuru1203 (talk) 17:54, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For his record table we could probably list it similar to Mayweather's "non-scored" exhibition fights, with the note explaining the issue. It would still be visible on the table, because it happened, but wouldn't count towards his record which would follow what RS say. – 2.O.Boxing 18:00, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The fight should still be recorded as it did happen but nowhere seems to list it on his record, everywhere states 9-0-0-1. I know BoxRec shouldn't be used as a source but we can see something happened to the fight as the other fights at that event are listed as happening on BoxRec, but the Fournier vs Mejia fight is not there. https://boxrec.com/en/event/763117 Here is the event listed on BoxRec the fights shows on this source https://fightnews.com/joe-fournier-wins-wba-international-title/10803 are listed there only the Fournier vs Mejia fight is absent. RicardoSantora (talk) 18:01, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've made this edit while we sort out what to do. It appears we all agree the fight happened, but his record, per reliable sources, is still 9–0. – 2.O.Boxing 18:24, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Huh.. One of the messier ones I've seen in a while. The first SolimanSturm fight comes to mind, as well as PriceTeper. The latest revision with the note looks fine to me, but there needs to be one of those NB-dealys in the infobox (see Dillian Whyte). Btw, what was the original result of that NC against Stini? That original result needs to be stated in Type, Round and Notes, with NC in Result. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 19:39, 6 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
it not being on his record seems fair to count it as an exhibition fight.Muur (talk) 11:13, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not when the sources explicitly say it was a professional fight. WP:NOR. – 2.O.Boxing 07:26, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Keyword "was". This source confirms that the WBA title win no longer appears on his official record. It was a pro fight at the time, but he was serving a ban and the fight would be removed from his pro record. He still won the fight and the title. Moving the fight his exhibition record would be a suitable alternative than having it listed as non-scored/removed on his pro record. ClassifiedUSA (talk) 21:55, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, the only organisation that can withdraw the sanctioning of a fight is the organisation that sanctioned it, which would be the relevant organisation in the Domincan Republic. Secondly, in rare cases where an organisation withdraws their sanction after the fact (I remember some in Mexico a few years ago), they don't (and can't) remove it from a record. The only thing they have the power to do is change the result to a "no contest".
None of that really matters though. The fight wasn't an exhibition so listing it as an exhibition isn't an option. That would be the literal definition of WP:Original research. – 2.O.Boxing 23:39, 4 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No one knows who he is in the Dominican Republic - everything he wrote in there is false. 2001:1308:28BB:EF00:74FD:FE2A:2905:FC3C (talk) 10:11, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
