Von Basedow did not describe hyperthyroidism AFTER ingestion of IODINE! He described in 1844 the disease described by Robert Graves, called in the Americas "Graves' disease" and in Germany and other Central European countries Basedow's disease. "Jod Basedow" in English simply means "Iodine Graves"...!And not the effect of extra iodine in producing Graves' (or Basedow's) disease)...

Jod is the German word for iodine ^[1]. Graves' disease is indeed translated Morbus Basedow ^[2]. Coalsoffire (talk) 03:25, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
