The person is a notable drug fighter, elected official, and leader of the Port Authority Police Department which is one of the largest and most prestigious law enforcement agencies in the nation.

The individual was responsible for making the largest and most complex multi national drug investigation in the DEA's history.

Speziale is no different then William Bratton, Raymond Kelly and other notable police leaders. The man is cited in Wikipedia and over 150,000 internet articles, television, newspapers, magazines. He more than falls within the category of a notable person under Wikipedia standards.

This is just the beginning of the individual and will become expanded as others enter information. Speziale is a national expert and has been on Bill O'Reilly, Nancy Grace, Lou Dobbs, CNN, Fox News, Good Morning America, Wake up Seattle and many others.

Do an Internet search and you will find that the article is only a portion of many noteworthy accomplishments and interesting facts about this individual. The person clearly fits in the noteworthy category and all the protocol.

As this article remains, I assure you hundreds will add to the content, which will enhance and bring more wikipedia noteworthy content and subsequent articles.

Spaghetti07205, the fact that a. this was one of the worst puff pieces I've ever seen, b. that there's a plethora of editors with IPs that geolocate to New Jersey (e.g., 24.189.106.16 and 24.184.29.57, whose many edits are only to this article) in the history, c. that puff has been added by SPAs like EditorofFact, I think that's reason enough. Article revamp, July 2015

I've completed a major re-work of this page over the course of today. Given the article's problem with puffery I worked backwards, googling Mr. Speziale and looking him up in reliable sources/databases, then using that coverage as a guide for how the article should be structured and what aspects of his career should be emphasized. I removed some poorly sourced fluff as well. Believe that my revisions are a major improvement and that everything is adequately sourced, but of course I am happy to discuss/debate the changes here, or see others make constructive changes.

Please help me keep an eye on the article, obviously someone has been actively editing it with the goal of making Mr. Speziale look good, often in complete contrast to what reliable sources suggest. Fyddlestix (talk) 05:11, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

This entire entry "Teaching and expert testimony[edit]

Speziale has served[when?] as an Adjunct Professor for Fairleigh Dickinson, teaching leadership and criminal justice.[48] He has been called an expert on cell phone and wiretapping technology, and has lectured at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virgina.[49] On May 15, 2000, Jerry Speziale testified before the United States House of Representatives Commission on Banking and Financial Services on the subject of money laundering and bulk cash smuggling in the United States.[50]"

appears to be "documented" by second hand information, not primary sources.

Yeah I know the sourcing on the "Teaching" section is kind of crap - but these are pretty straightforward claims that there's no particular reason to doubt. Apparently he did testify before Congress and lecture at Quantico, and both of those seem like notable activities. Whatever - I left it in, if other folks feel that it's not well-sourced enough to include, they're free to remove it I guess.

No idea what to do with the airport stuff (is that what got rev del'd a few days ago?) It looks to me like a case of "we thought he did something wrong, but it turns out he didn't really," which seems like it would be WP:UNDUE to talk about at length in the article. That said, the AP has picked up on the incident just today, in a story that makes reference to some (unspecified) type of hearing about the incident set for Friday. This story has a bit more detail, apparently the hearing is on a request by Speziale for a protective order, on the basis of his claim that he was "illegally detained" and is “afraid to return to any airport that is controlled by the Port Authority.” This is starting to look notable to me but I'd still advocate waiting a bit before including anything in the article, it's very much a he-says-they-say thing at the moment, and since the two parties are involved in an on-going lawsuit I think it's important to be cautious in what we say about this. Update, August 2015

There continue to be problematic edits on this article, by IP addresses and SPA's who seem determined to make Speziale look good. I've reverted them a couple times, but am posting here with an explanation since it may not be immediately obvious what's wrong with some of the edits. A couple of examples:

• adding content which cannot be verified with a reliable source, without adding a source.
• repeatedlychanging a direct quote from a source, without adding a new source (the new "quote" does not appear in that source, or in any source that I can find).
• Adding factually inaccurate content (every reliable source that I can find, including the one cited for that sentence, says "director" rather than "commissioner."
• Removing factually accurate, referenced content that might be perceived as making the subject of the article look bad. Here is another example.
• Adding irrelevant trivia that might be perceived as making the subject of the article look good.
• Adding spin to the article by removing well-sourced, notable information in favor of un-referenced content that cannot be verified.
• Adding copyrighted images, multiple times.
• Adding primary sources and OR.

I could go on for a while with more examples but hopefully you get the idea. I am currently sifting through the edits to see if any actually useful information or sources were added, and will re-insert them if I find anything. But if these edits continue I will be posting at the Conflict of Interest noticeboard (I won't go into it here, but there is some evidence that these editors have a close connection to the article subject) to seek help with maintaining NPOV and verifiability on this article. Oh, and I've posted notes on each of the IPs and SPA's talk pages, so far none of them have acknowledged (or heeded) my warnings/pleas. Fyddlestix (talk) 04:26, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Possible BLP concerns?

Should this section of the article be included or is it undue/a BLP problem?

A week after Speziale's resignation, investigators with the New Jersey department of criminal justice searched the offices and shop of the Passaic County Sheriff's Department motor pool. The New York Times reported that the search was part of an investigation into allegations that the motor pool had repaired vehicles of donors Speziale's campaign, and that Speziale had sought to give Sheriff's department ID cards to donors, which would have allowed them to carry weapons. As a result of the search, the director of the motor pool, Speziale's former driver Paolo Mariano, was charged and found guilty stealing $100, 000 of drug money that had been found in a vehicle, and with stealing a vehicle engine from the motor pool. Speziale did not face any charges as a result of the investigation.

What about this one?

In 2009, Speziale also faced a lawsuit filed by police captain Lori Mambelli, who alleged that the department had retaliated against her when she blew the whistle on the improper issuance of police-type ID cards to civilians, including to some of Speziale's political fundraisers. During the trial, Speziale denied that he had instructed anyone to issue the ID cards. In 2013, a jury found that the county and Sheriff's executive staff had engaged in "actual malice or willful disregard" of Mabelli's rights, and imposed $75 000 in punitive damages against the Sheriff's department.

Both are cases where a potentially serious allegation was made against Speziale; in the first case, he faced no charges (although someone who worked closely with him was found guilty of a different offense as a result of the investigation), in the second case the Sheriff's Office was found liable, but not Speziale himself. The quote you added about the second case does help tie it in to this article. The current sources seem to primarily focus on the retaliation, so would probably need to start with that and mention that it was over the ID cards being issued improperly under order from Speziale which Speziale denied having done. I bel wove it's a recipe for libel and defamation as Speziale was not charged, not found responsible and leaping to an agency that large and painting Speziale with that brush puts this not in a neutral point of view and appears to be an attack on an individual for being a leader of an organization when a jury found he was w no implication at all in any of the allegations or accusations which they remain to be just that. The suit claims, among other things, that automobile assigned to him was taken away; an inquiry was performed into his use of the car, he was given assignments to distract him, that his wife's medical benefits were curtailed, and trivial tasks to detract him from the investigations and his Facebook account was hacked.

Please be advised that the article cites that a criminal investigation was underway based on the Passaic County Freeholders, which was never undertaken and under the Wikipedia policy the criminal investigation and that should not be cited because it is against the policy as it never materialized and never any criminal convictions which is the standard.

The article goes on to talk about the rule about search warrants, which at that time was Chris Christie, then US Attorney and NJ Attorney General David Sampson with numerous articles about the mentor of Christie being David Sampson former attorney general of NJ who's been convicted in bridge gate and convicted of bribery which leads to the relationship and conviction and credibility of him. Then there are the secret hearings by El Atriss who was responsible for providing ID cards and fake licenses to the hijackers of September 11th. Speziale's investigators conducted the investigation as the secret hearings were released and prove that Bergen, Essex, Passaic did the investigation and the FBI was notified about the warrant so why a depp chill? They knew and backed out and then there are articles that show somehow El Atriss was tipped off and fled hours before the raid. Report the facts not the negative. Speziale was a powerful political figure and well regarded in his positions, yet the article paints as if Speziale did the investigation. He was the head of the organization and three agencies jointly did the investigation. He was the head of the organization which misleads the reader and damages the individual. Speziale was a popular star as sheriff.
