Protection[edit]

Obviously going to need to semi-protect or lock this for awhile. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mantonino (talkcontribs) 27 July 2011

Agreed. Being a Pirate fan I half-way want to see him get roasted, but they need to lock this page for a while. At least through November. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.238.8.193 (talk) 14:41, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article is currently semi-protected until 3 August 2011. Jenks24 (talk) 14:48, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Side note to Mantonino (talk · contribs) and 67.238.8.193 (talk · contribs · WHOIS): For future reference the proper forum for requesting page protection is at WP:RFPP. —KuyaBriBriTalk 14:51, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Call against the Pirates[edit]

So obviously the semi-protect is warranted to prevent vandalism in light of last night's game. However, would it nevertheless be appropriate to at least mention the call and include some independent 3rd party sources? There are lots of references discussing the call. For reference, the article on Jim Joyce mentions the near perfect game. Mickeyg13 (talk) 15:58, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from Tomluketaylor, 27 July 2011[edit]

Jerry Meals has recently become known for his blown call in the Pittsburgh Pirates vs. the Atlanta Braves game on July 26th, 2011. He falsely called Julio Lugo safe resulting in a win for the Braves in the 19th inning. [1]

I think you'll have to suggest a more neutral wording, and find a reference to a more balanced news article rather than an opinion piece. -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:40, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Information already in the article in a more neutral way. Jnorton7558 (talk) 07:25, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pirates file complaint:

Ched :  ?  19:52, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The complaint is a publicity stunt meant to embarrass Meals and MLB, to stoke fan ire, and to deflect blame for losing the game. It's not a formal protest because protests against judgment calls are expressly forbidden by rule. The controversial call is certainly notable, but nothing else about this incident has much relevance or notability. Moishe Rosenbaum (talk) 22:13, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That was my understanding, but I don't know much about the game. I just left the links when I saw them. — Ched :  ?  19:26, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request on 9 September 2012[edit]

On Saturday, September 8th of 2012, Meals also blew a call against the Yankees in the 9th inning against the Baltimore Orioles. The call was a blown out at first that, if called correctly, would have tied the game. The blown call ended the game and the Orioles moved up a game to be tied with the Yankees for first in the AL East. 98.214.90.131 (talk) 19:28, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Webclient101! That must have been the call that prompted the recent vandalism (and semi-protection). David1217 What I've done 03:09, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
