Baseballstats template[edit]

My impression is that using this template to link multiple stats website would violate WP:NOT and WP:EL. I've not looked around much, but my guess is that this is an external links template that was created without consensus to make an exception to the general consensus that more than one such link should be not added to articles in most situations. If there's been any discussion at all, could someone point to it? --Ronz (talk) 20:02, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Yankees10: I'd also question how well it follows MOS. --Ronz (talk) 20:14, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it doesn't violate those. This template has been around for over 10 years. Each link provides it's own set of unique features that the other ones don't. Thus making it incredibly useful to provide links from all of these. You should bring this to WP:Baseball if you have a problem with the template not here.-- Yankees10 20:23, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but that's not a response that would sway consensus.
So no discussions that you know of? --Ronz (talk) 20:27, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea if there is a consensus or not. Go to WP:Baseball you'll get more responses there.-- Yankees10 20:33, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've started a discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Baseball#Baseballstats_template. --Ronz (talk) 20:42, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the link to the Baseball-Reference minors stats, which is available from the Baseball-Reference stats page. Links that are not unique fail ELNO#1. --Ronz (talk) 02:13, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Puzzling deletion[edit]

While a number of RSs are pointing out that he is under team control through 2020, and that is reflected in the RSs used as refs, two editors have now deleted it (the first editor, without any edit summary, and the second saying it does not relate to the trade -- it doesn't have to, it relates to the subject of the bio (though it is mentioned in many articles about the trade, such as the the three he just deleted as refs). Very puzzling. Is this another example of an editor saying my view is best, and the RSs should not have covered it, or covered it in the articles about the trade, because I would not, so I'm going to delete it because I know better than the RSs whether it is notable? --2604:2000:E010:1100:C578:59BE:A8EA:EF1E (talk) 04:28, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I will be reviewing this! Sanfranciscogiants17 (talk) 17:35, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

  • This section looks good!

Lead[edit]

  • ”He played various sports throughout his childhood, and took both the baseball and gridiron football teams of Carl Albert High School to state championship titles” – “He played various sports as he grew up, helping the baseball and gridiron football teams of Carl Albert High School win state championship titles.”
  • ” rather than commit” – “rather than honor a commitment”
  • No comma needed after designated for assignment

Early life[edit]

  • ” Realmuto had a close relationship with his mother Margaret, who drove him to his Little League baseball games and various other sporting matches” – “Realmuto’s mother Margaret often drove him to his Little League baseball games and various other sporting matches.” Just to keep from mistakenly implying that Realmuto and his father were not close.
  • No comma needed after “the age of five”
  • ”he picked up” – “he started playing”
  • Link tennis
  • ”by scoring” – “by recording”
  • ” was .595, with 21 home runs” – “was .595, and he had 21 home runs”

Minor league career[edit]

  • ” would occasionally serve as the catcher for Carl Albert” – “would occasionally catch for Carl Albert”
  • ”was catching, and told” – Comma not needed, since later clause is not independent.
  • ”offer, with a” – “offer, which included a”
  • No comma needed after Cossins
  • ”scoring a critical” – “recording a critical”
  • ”He was one of three Hammerheads” – “Realmuto was one of three Hammerheads” – to show it wasn’t Fernandez (though I’ll bet he was one of the others.)
    •  Done Nope, Yelich and Ozuna! They picked for power that year — GhostRiver 21:56, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • No comma needed after “37 percent of attempted base stealers”
  • Instead of listing the plate appearances after the batting average stat, I would list the at bats figure instead. This is because batting average is calculated from at bats, not plate appearances. This goes for the whole article.
  • No comma needed after “batted .222”
  • ”was further hindered” – “was hindered” – Fernandez was a great player, but being separated from him wasn’t necessarily a hindrance.
  • ” was stronger, with relief pitcher” – “was stronger; relief pitcher” Not sure “with” is supposed to be used quite in that manner.
  • ” Realmuto received another minor league All-Star Game appearance in 2013, as one of nine Suns selected for the Southern League showcase” – “Realmuto was one of nine Suns selected for the Southern League showcase”
  • No comma needed after “hitting .239”
  • I would take out “with the option for a young prospect to take over in the future.” Either that, or mention who voiced this possibility. Theoretically, any position has the option for a young prospect to take over in the future.
    •  Partly done Reworded; it was very much A Thing that year that they went with Salty instead of calling up one of their catching prospects — GhostRiver 21:56, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • ”batting dramatically increased” – “batting dramatically improved”
  • ”Player of the Week, after scoring” – No comma needed
  • ”multi-hit games, striking out” – “multi-hit games while striking out”
  • ” He was meant to appear in his third minor league All-Star Game, but was unavailable due to a promotion” – “He was selected to his third minor league All-Star Game but did not appear due to a promotion.”
  • I would mention that Realmuto helped Jacksonville win the Southern League championship. (It’s implied lower down, but I think it’d be best to state it up here too.)
  • Nicolino’s been almost as good as Realmuto in the majors, too! [Sarcasm]

2014-15[edit]

  • ” we think he can” – “we think…can” – Works better grammatically the way this quote is presented in the sentence.
  • Take out “later that week” – that the debut was four days later is already made clear.
  • ”scoring three RBIs off of” – “recording three RBIs against”
  • ”during which he” – “in which he had”
  • Spring training is already linked.
  • ”in 2015, but was” – No comma needed, since latter clause isn’t independent.
  • ”He scored his” – “He hit his”. Also, who was the home run against?
  • ” and the second inside-the-park home run” – “and the second to hit an inside-the-park home run” Cool stat, not something you’d expect from a catcher (as you’re no doubt familiar with!)
    •  Done Hey, I'm actually faster than I look! One of my advantages on the bag; nobody expects the catcher to barrel at them full-tilt! — GhostRiver 22:00, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

2016-17[edit]

  • ”to play in other positions” – I don’t think “in” is needed.
  • ” of the regular season, after scoring” – comma not needed.
  • ” a game-tying run in an” – “tying the game in an”
  • ” Realmuto was named the recipient of the Jeff Conine Award” – “Realmuto won the Jeff Conine Award”

2018[edit]

  • ”suffering a bone bruise” – “sustaining a bone bruise” – for variety from the next sentence.
  • ” becoming one of few remaining veterans left as part of” – “one of the few remaining veterans due to”
  • ” as the only Marlin selected by the team” – “when he was the only Marlin selected”
  • ”of the game, and walked” – “of the game and walked”
  • ” with a .277 batting average, hitting 21 home runs, 74 RBIs, and scoring 74 runs” – “with a .277 batting average, 21 home runs, 74 RBIs, and 74 runs scored”
  • Take out “from the team”
  • ” the Marlins named Realmuto their Most Valuable Player in 2018” – “Realmuto became the Marlins’ Most Valuable Player in 2018.”
  • ”offensive player in each position” – “offensive player at each position”
  • I would make the last sentence of this section the first sentence of the next section. Then, start what is now the first sentence of it “However…” and change “informed” to “had informed”.

2019[edit]

  • ” once again serving as the only member of his team to make an appearance” – “again the only member of his team selected”
  • ” By the time that he was shut down for the season, Realmuto was hitting” – “In 2019, Realmuto hit”
  • No comma needed after .275
  • Didn’t realize the Phillies went so long without winning Silver Sluggers! They still had a lot of good players at least through 2012.
    • We sure did, but everyone else just had better! If it weren't for that meddling Pujols, Ryan Howard should have gotten at least one more. — GhostRiver 22:14, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • ”to his first-ever” – “to the first-ever”

2020-21[edit]

  • ” a strained hip flexor, and missed” – “a strained hip flexor, and he missed”
    •  Done
  • ” the same day that he was signed to the Phillies as a free agent, reliever Archie Bradley tweeted, "#SignJT"” – “reliever Archie Bradley tweeted, "#SignJT" immediately after [or “the same day as” if it wasn’t after] he himself signed with the Phillies.”
  • ” scoring three runs off of” – “driving in three runs against”
  • ”it was the Phillies home run” – first home run, I’m presuming.
    •  Done Yes, unfortunately. /Cries in Mike Schmidt era — GhostRiver 22:14, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Player profile[edit]

  • Take out “in their measurements”
    •  Done and added "of throws" to clarify what the accuracy is, exactly — GhostRiver 22:14, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life[edit]

  • This section looks good!

Just minor fixes; let me know when you’ve made them! Also, thanks for the Balester review! Sanfranciscogiants17 (talk) 18:31, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Of course! Balester is a name I heard thrown around when he was a Nat (my grandpa was the one family member who we never got on board with the Phils), but I really knew nothing about him. J. T., on the other hand -- this one was a labor of love, and thank you very much for reviewing it! I think everything has been addressed! — GhostRiver 22:14, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good now, passing! Excellent work! I should have time to give Tyler Skaggs a look soon, as well. Hope it makes it to FA! Also, I may be nominating Willie Mays for FAC again sometime soon. It didn't get promoted the last couple of times, and the last time, the big issue seemed to be that no one was commenting on it. No pressure, but if I do nominate again soon and you have time, your feedback would be appreciated! Sanfranciscogiants17 (talk) 00:03, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Odd[edit]

This was both odd and, I believe, obviously improper. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=J._T._Realmuto&diff=next&oldid=1116371878 2603:7000:2143:8500:CCCF:3FAC:3BCB:C117 (talk) 07:22, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I probably agree but at the same time if you just created an account you probably wouldn't have been reverted. Just saying-- Yankees10 19:49, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Editing as an IP or with an account should have no bearing on whether edits are reverted or not. That was an inappropriate use of rollback by Gardenkur. The edits were good faith and none of the WP:ROLLBACKUSE criteria were met. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:04, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't disagree. Just giving this IP some tips because this is not the first time they have been unfairly reverted.-- Yankees10 21:09, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 2603:7000:2143:8500:CCCF:3FAC:3BCB:C117 and Yankees10 . I thank both of you for the remarks and suggestions respectively but in the ocean of edits misjudgements do happen. You can resubmit them or I will need sometime to revert it. Kindly understand. Thanks. Gardenkur (talk) 04:14, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
