A fact from Jōmon Venus appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 1 January 2017 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
While I'm sure this will elicit a hostile response, could we please discover a standardised title for this piece? In the barely-above-stub article we have:
My preference would be "Jōmon Venus" (slanted or not slanted). I changed Jónmon Venus to Jómon Venus in the text. "Jomon no Venus" only appears as a direct quote from the title of a reference and should therefore not be changed I believe. That leaves the three versions: "Jōmon Venus", "Jōmon Venus" and "the Venus of Jōmon". I don't know what the conventions are for slanted/non-slanted or whether one could have both in an article. As for "the Venus of Jōmon", IMO it could be worth having this once in order to point out the relationship between Venus and Jōmon. bamse (talk) 15:20, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Whether it's italicized or whatever, the spelling has to be Jōmon Venus per MOS:JAPAN. This goes for "direct quotes" as well—we don't normally "quote" the stylization of outside sources unless there's a reason for it. "Jómon" is a typo—there's no romanization system for Japanese that uses acute accents. Curly "the jerk" Turkey🍁¡gobble! 05:41, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This term is considered obsolete, from what I can gather, and a google search puts this article high up in the results. Can someone either provide gloss (if the text is sourced) or modernise to a more easily recognisable term? My guess is that it's talking about the top ridge of the hip bone - but it's a guess! 20040302 (talk) 08:37, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
