Article issues template[edit]

I restored the article issues template, as all the items in it appear to still apply. The notability tag is an issue since the only WP:RS in the article so far is an obituary. We can discuss here if the person meets the guidelines in WP:CREATIVE and WP:GNG; hopefully better sources can be found. The WP:COI tag applies since the article author professes to be the representative of the subject's estate. The sections and citation style tags are minor copyedit issues that can wait. Thanks! Re: Janos Nyiri biographical article (May 11, 2011) and request for further clarification of continuing objections by VQuakr[edit]

VQuakr appears to have remaining questions or personal objections regarding authenticity of sources and notability. Maybe more clarification is necessary from VQuakr. VQuakr appears to have other issues than the usual queries and references or Wikipedia standards. The referencing styles and footnoting appear to be genuine unresolved issues, per VQuakr, With respect, maybe VQuakr can offer assistance or expertise with footnoting and referencing styles, as well as detailed clarification as to his remaining objections to factual, historical content or encyclopedic sources, publications and public records, all of which are either already supplied or readily available or both. Respectfully request immediate response from VQuakr, and maybe some kind of constructive solution as opposed to deletion/blocking etcetea. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Oulipo Oui (talkcontribs) 07:31, 11 May 2011 (UTC) Oulipo Oui (talk) 07:33, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am puzzled by your objections, VQuakr. But if I am at risk of being repeatedly overruled or deleted, or blocked, or accused of vandalism or COI etcetera, maybe I should just completely withdraw the article? That would be very disappointing to me. But it seems that you really do not like the article, VQuakr. Would you prefer that the contribution was just taken down and that there be no biography of Janos Nyiri on Wikipedia at all? As is, there are more than 20 independent sources cited, and cross-references to dozens of internal as well as external links. The Times and Sunday Times articles were removed from Wikipedia because of concerns, rightly or wrongly, that there may have been some kind of copyright infringement, even if they have already been released into the public domain. The Amazon, Google, print media and press citations are also supplied, with dates or links where appropriate. Likewise French, Hungarian and German language sources. It all seems increasingly odd, except for the recurring issue of consistent Wikipedia citation and source styles, which you describe as minor issues, but it is proving to be rather a laborious and sadly fruitless process, overall. Please advise what you recommend, VQuakr, regarding further action to be taken on this article, if indeed there is any further action to be taken at all. I hope I am not wasting my time or yours. Thanks Oulipo Oui (talk) 07:58, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First off, if you are having trouble using the <ref></ref> tags, do not worry about it and certainly do not let that keep you from adding references an whatever format is most intuitive for you. What I meant by a "minor issue" is that the format of the references is relatively unimportant, not that using the footnote format was easy. Yes, when I have time I would be happy to change the reference formatting.
The main issue here is that I see lots of primary sources, but a dearth of reliable, secondary sources written about the topic. The amazon and IMDB links do not appear to contain useful information, and are not adequately verifiable. That leaves us with the NY Times obituary. Biographical subjects whose only reliable secondary sources are obituaries frequently are not notable, hence the notability of this person is in question. You mention the number of google hits the person has; this is not generally directly used as an indicator of notability because most of those hits would not form a usable reference for this article. I do acknowledge that the subject of this article is more likely than most to have coverage in non-English sources; if such sources exist that show the subject meets the notability guidelines I would be happy to assist with adding them.
Finally, I ask that Oulipo Oui review WP:AGF with respect to my motives as they relate to this article. VQuakr (talk) 18:09, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much, VQuakr, for the clarifications. And thank you for referring me to the WP:AGF page here. Regarding the shortage of secondary sources on the topic, I will do my best to address that in my future revisions. You are mistaken on one detail, which may be both helpful and significant. The primary reference article to which you refer, which was deleted by a Wikipedia Editor who was concerned for objectivity and copyright reasons, is NOT from the New York Times (although there are two articles from the New York Times online archives that support much of the material in this article). The article in question was, in fact, from the features section of the Times and Sunday Times of London, also available online, which are editorial and op/ed pieces compiled over many years by the London Times and Sunday Times senior editorial staff. The article in question is very different, I think you will agree, from a family tribute or a vanity piece. I am confident that there are more than sufficient, and reputable secondary sources on thesubject, although you are also right that some of them are in French, German, Russian, Hebrew, Hungarian etcetera. I trust you will be relieved to find that the subject meets the notability guidelines, and you will eventually be happy to add the sources. I have also found it helpful to read and study Wikipedia articles on Nyiri's contemporaries, actor, director and writer colleagues, as well as his publishers, translators and editors, etcetera. I will address all these matters again very soon. Thank you again for your patience and support. Oulipo Oui (talk) 20:42, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Photo[edit]

Thank you, VQuakr, for your excellent work. Two questions: 1. Does the tag banner still need to appear at the head of the article? 2. Is there anything that can be done about the missing photo? Oulipo Oui (talk) 17:37, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like you got the photo issue fixed, well done. The default on Wikimedia is to delete images that are unclear as to their copyright status. VQuakr (talk) 03:30, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article revisions/photo[edit]

Thank you for the excellent revisions and restoring the photograph. Is it possible to remove the tags or not yet? Please advise. Oulipo Oui (talk) 17:02, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is much more to be done, as I noted in my edit summary, the tags should stay up until the applicable issues are resolved, not until a solution has been merely outlined. I will be busy with work most of the week, but will put in some improvements to the article as time permits. Any luck finding third party sources that can be used to establish notability? I can assist in adding them to the article but am not knowledgeable enough about searching for non-English sources to find them independently. VQuakr (talk) 03:30, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
