Hm, I didn't catch enough of it to cite, but TCM's Ben Mankiewicz said tonight that actually the communist government forcibly ended Ivan's acting career, and put him to work in a quarry. – RVJ (talk) 06:18, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

True...I heard Ben M. say the same thing. Punishment perhaps, not uncommon. He was quite good in the movie. Sad that he died at age 50, so young really. Did he ever marry and have children? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.27.92.151 (talk) 06:55, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, he was never married and had no children and lived alone in a flat. He developed diabetes and died there after falling into a diabetic coma. He could have been saved if he'd had someone with him who could have called for an ambulance and had him rushed to hospital, but there was no one and he died all alone. It was quite a few days before he was found. David Rayner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DavidRayner (talkcontribs) 11:37, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
