figures[edit]

The current version of this wikipedia article takes most of its figures from a table found at www.persianwo.org/Disporia.htm and reproduced at www.farsinet.com/pwo/diaspora.html, which appears to consist of subjective estimations by laymen.

Most of the numbers listed in that table are very debatable and appear far overstretched. A significant example would be the number of Iranians living in Turkey, which according to an 2007 article from the Turkish press ( http://www.turkses.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2456&Itemid=51), presumably based on official government statistics (given the precise nature of the figures), amounts to 6,014 persons, not 800,000; the total number of foreigners living in Turkey reached merely 176,717 in 2007, therefore making the figure suggested at farsinet.com even more impossible. Turkey has not granted citizenship to such important numbers of foreign citizens either. Iranian refugees in Turkey, who might not be counted as resident citizens, according to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) amounted to 1,437 in 1996 ( http://www.irainc.org/dcenter/table1.htm); this is while in 2007, still according to UNHCR, Iranians were not among the eleven major refugee populations of the world, meaning that refugees originating from Iran numbered in any case less than 200,003, possibly much less (which is the number of refugees originating from Myanmar, which holds the tenth rank worldwide (Palestinians excluded) and is the last country listed in the table entitled "Origin of major refugee populations (as at 1 Jan 2007, ten largest groups)", that can be found at the right hand side of http://www.unhcr.org/cgi-bin/texis/vtx/country?iso=tur).

Furthermore, the persianwo.org table does not cite sources for its figures.

Finally, persianwo.org, as clearly appears from the comments it adds to its demographic statistics on Iranians living abroad, is not primarily a statistical website, but primarily a religious / missionary one, which might explain the fact that it publishes strongly inflated figures without verification.

Therefore these should not be considered as particularly objective, nor simply cited as facts in the wikipedia article. Corrections will be undertaken whenever alternate sources are found. Scientific 01 (talk) 13:21, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All above points are well taken. Please proceed with corrections whenever needed. SSZ (talk) 13:05, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More copyright violations[edit]

Huge chunks of text are lifted directly from [1]. -- Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 20:03, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Persian" and "Iranian" is wrongly used interchangeably. "Persians" are the the majority ethnic group, but nearly half of the population of Iran are NOT Persian. When describing Iranian diaspora, this causes quiet a confusion.

Agnosticism[edit]

Is there any source for the claim that American Iranians are more atheist or agnostic than Iranians elsewhere in the diaspora, e.g. Europe? -- Obviously, the diaspora is much less Islamic than the home people. But why particularly in America? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.206.156.132 (talk) 00:37, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any reason to single-out the USA. Maybe a more "materialistic" culture? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.83.61.246 (talk) 23:50, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Limitation[edit]

Why is Persian just limited to Iran? This is not a language just spoken in Iran. Afghanistan (as Dari) and Tajikistan (as Tajik) also speak this language. There are more than 25 million indigenous people who speak this language in Afghanistan and also more than 7 million in Tajikistan. Zaki Frahmand 13 February 2022, 19:58 UTC — Preceding undated comment added 08:58, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This page is not about the Persian language but rather the Iranian diaspora, is there something specific about the Iranian diaspora page you would like to discuss? PigeonChickenFish (talk) 05:28, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
