Organized crime[edit]

The articles I found about the Novelty Workers fell into 4 categories:

Pro-union sites lamenting that the union is controlled by organized crime.
Anti-union sites gloating that the union is controlled by organized crime.
Government sites listing organizd crime convictions..
News sites reporting on organized crime connections siting the three sources above.

I'm not kidding. If anyone has sources that talk about this organiazation negotiating contracts, organizaing workers, representing members or other union-type activities, let me know and I'll add them or put them in yourself. The WP entry claims that the union has some 20,000 members. According to this article, Novelty and Production Workers "represented" workers at Republic Windows and Doors in Chicago, whose workers famously occupied the factory after switching to another union, United Electrical. It doesn't sound like there was any attempt on the part of the union to represent workers' interests, though. The article doesn't go into detail (and is written by a UE organizer), but my guess is that the few shops Novelty and Production Workers has under its jurisdiction are used to embezzle dues, get kickbacks from the employer, etc. 69.208.114.72 (talk) 04:04, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Toy Cat[edit]

The toy cats have a sub-cat for toy manufacturers, but nothing for toy workers or associations so I just put it in the main cat. Any improvement on that classificiation is welcome.RevelationDirect (talk) 03:19, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
