Intel has discontinued the 80386 line of processors. PCN 106013-01 has the details. What would be a good choice to replace the 80386 so that software developed for that platform could run without modification?

Any subsequent x86 processor (486, Pentium, Pentium II, etc...) can execute 80386 programs without modifications. inclusivedisjunction (talk) 05:40, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a question for you...[edit]

Bus width: 16, 32, or adaptable to both? Article doesn't currently say... Presumably the line that says "variant of 80386EX" is supposed to say either 80386SX or 80386DX, but the typo makes it impossible to tell. 146.199.76.255 (talk) 19:27, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: nevermind, I found an Intel datasheet within seconds on google, that states it as essentially a 386SX in terms of raw code execution, just with an additional "resume" instruction and some slight cycle timing changes (as well as a bunch of additional IO and the like specific to its embedded-system implementation). Article updated to reflect this. 146.199.76.255 (talk) 19:34, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
