Untitled[edit]

After the new Motu Proprio "Sommorum Pontificium" this term, indult [catholic] traditionalist is obselete. There is now indult any longer....

No reliable sources - copy to Wiktionary[edit]

This article was created in 2005. There was no consensus to delete this article in a 2006 AfD. In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI reformed the norms about the older usage of the Roman rite of Mass in Summorum Pontificum – this made the rhetoric about the term indult Catholic obsolete and made indult Catholic useless as a loaded term.

Although I believe the term indult Catholic was used, there are no reliable sources in which the term can be found. A sample of a few sources that I found were:

  • an undated question and answer page on a personal website which was first archived in 2002 (but it describes the sense incorrectly)
  • a 2007 blog (mentions the term)
  • an undated about-us page of a quasi-catholic episcopus vagans group on a user generated directory site which was first archived in 2008 (states: "The Traditional Roman Catholic Chapel of St. Rita is not an 'Indult Catholic' Chapel, nor is it a 'Society of St. Pius X', nor is it a 'Fraternity of St. Peter'. We accept any and all 'independent chapels' created under the aforementioned conditions, and for practical purposes we make no distinctions between SSPX, SSPV, CMRI, or chapels served by independent priests (retired, vagus, et cetera).")
  • an undated post on a forum (states: "As an indult Catholic, [...])

So at best there is some attributable usage online without a single WP:RELIABLE source that defines the term, and the content in this article is WP:ORIGINAL. Most of the content should be moved to Quattuor abhinc annos, I think this article can be reduced to something like:

Indult Catholic was a traditionalist Catholic loaded term used, in the early 21st century until c. 2007, as a label applied to conservative Catholics who attended only the licit celebrations of the Tridentine Mass in Latin according to the 1962 edition of the Roman Missal and regulated by the local bishop through an indult that conformed to the 1984 Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments norms in the indult Quattuor abhinc annos.

Which would make it a dictionary entry per WP:NOTDIC. I think it should be tagged {{Copy to Wiktionary}}. –BoBoMisiu (talk) 13:46, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@BoBoMisiu:, I think you're onto something here. Would {{Copy to Wiktionary}} also delete the article or would it have to go to AFD again? --Samuel J. Howard (talk) 14:09, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would move and replace with a soft redirect. But I working on the article now and will add {{Copy to Wiktionary}} later if there is consensus. Maybe I will create the entry in Wiktionary first with the citations. I think the term is historical and people may search for it so a precise meaning should be somewhere. –BoBoMisiu (talk) 14:28, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
