Might haves, Would haves[edit]

Life and golf are full of them....

  • If Bobby Nichols didn't have such a hot putter at the 1964 PGA Championship, Arnold Palmer might have gotten a career grand slam.
  • If John Mahaffey at the 1978 PGA had missed that playoff putt in sudden death, Tom Watson might have gotten a career grand slam.
  • If Lee Trevino had shot a 72 instead of an 81 in the third round of the 1989 Masters, he would have gotten a career grand slam
  • If Tiger Woods hadn't crashed his car he might have....
  • If Payne Stewart hadn't died in a plane crash he might have....
  • If Tony Lema hadn't died in a plane crash he might have....
  • If inclement weather had caused an abandonment to the third round the competition would have reverted to a 36 hole event and Matt Kuchar would have been declared the winner

If I didn't call it quits after Kuchar, this list might have gone on forever.

That last one with Kuchar in it, was an edit[1] from last year to Dustin Johnson's article that got removed.[2]

So the bit in the article 'If McIlroy had won, he would have moved from second to first in the Official World Golf Ranking.' that's a would have too. Same applies to Kuchar as it does to Johnson. It's not relevant to Mahan any way....William 18:08, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for 'Personal Life' section[edit]

I haven't edited anything in Wikipedia before, so I wasn't sure about just jumping on someone else's content, but I think a slight re-wording is in order with the section 'Personal Life'. The phrase I question is "He was forced to withdraw" on July 27th, 2013. I guess it just seems careless; he wasn't "forced" to withdraw. "He decided to withdraw . . ." is what it should really say.
