Unreliable article[edit]

The article opens by giving the impression that Jewish settlement in Hispaniola began already in 1492. This is, of course, untrue. Jewish settlement in the Americas began in the 16th century. The article probably has in mind the (to the best of my knowledge - completely unbased) rumour that some of Columbus's shipmates were Jews. The "genetic study" to which the article refers seems completely unprofessional - just a bunch of Spanish Jewish dominicans looking for pen pals and contributions. The reference to the "paperback book" is strange. Why would the author reference a book by a non-academic press, when there are plenty of professional histories on the topic, such as M. Arbell's The Jewish nation of the Caribbean. Finally, what does the discussion of Israel have to do with the history of the Jews in Hispaniola?
