[Untitled][edit]

This is crazy. 2 million Jews in Indonesia would make it one of the largest populations of Jews in the world. I think the number of Jews there is more like 20 or 25 individual persons.

This article is pure nonense - it needs to be revised completely - there might be 50 Jews in the whole country if you count temporary nonIndonesian residents (diplomats, NGS's, academics, etc.169.252.4.21 14:21, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Religious registration[edit]

I'm curious. Do Indonesian Jews, if there are still any around, register as "Muslims" in the six-religion system? (I'd suppose that's the closest religion to Judaism from a theological and practice oriented point of view, although the mythology is closer to that of Catholicism and Protestantism.) 198.151.130.41 (talk) 04:07, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Assimilation and Extraordinary Success[edit]

Changed "The social and cultural characteristics of Indonesia that facilitated the extraordinary economic, political, and social success of the Indonesian Jewish community also contributed to assimilation. " to "The social and cultural characteristics of Indonesia contributed to assimilation. "

What extraordinary successes? They may well exist but there are no examples or references provided and the rest of the article seems to contradict the claim.

Whose extraordinary successes, the 100-500 people mentioned in one place or the 20,000 mentioned elsewhere? [was only 2,000 in older version is this page]. I assume the latter since it connects assimilation and success, and the larger number refers to the assimilated descendents, but if they are so assimilated to the point many no longer view themselves as Jews it seems unlikely they are greatly more successful than a similar sized random sample of the population. Does this only refer to the present day since they were persecuted in living memory, e.g., WWII? Are they truly a politically influential population? Are there any Jewish politicians? Do their votes have an outsized impact? What is extraordinarily socially successful - invited to all the right parties?

[Note: I found the article by accident and don't know the topic. I'm not making any arguments for or against assimilation, about the populations involved here, etc.] Fitzhugh (talk) 08:24, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
