Vaught[edit]

@MisterCake: Good call moving the Vaught era out of "early history." Not sure why he was ever lumped in there to begin with; Johnny Vaught is Ole Miss football history. It's pretty remarkable how Ole Miss has always basked in mediocrity except for that stretch of brilliance under Vaught. Lizard (talk) 12:34, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know a lot about him, but it seemed that way. In the pre-SEC days, Hazel and Stauffer were pretty good. Stauffer was treated in the papers and football guides like a northern "football expert" transplant in the south, like Heisman or McGugin or Donahue. Cake (talk) 15:50, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's just, how many programs can you say have won 6 conference titles, but all under one coach and none under any other coaches? That might be some kind of obscure record. It's odd because usually when a program has a "golden age" like that it sends it into permanent relevance (Notre Dame under Rockne, Michigan under Yost, Bama under Wade and Thomas, etc.). Instead Ole Miss fell instantly back into mediocrity, as if the Vaught era never happened. Lizard (talk) 16:12, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
