removing History of Indian Subcontinent navigation table[edit]

I removed the "HistoryOfSouthAsia" navigation table, first because it is headed by a picture of the Taj Mahal, which may be OK for Indians because it's their #1 tourist destination, and probably OK with Pakistanis because it is a wonderful example of Islamic architecture, but hardly appropriate for Bhutanese. Plus the navigation sub links appear to completely ignore Buddhist history, so how can it be of help to understanding Bhutan's history? A history of Buddhism navigation table would be acceptable, but there isn't one yet.

Over the last 1200 years the Bhutanese have mainly kept to themselves, not influenced by, nor in turn influencing, the sweeping changes that happened to the south. The country was never Hindu, nor controlled by Mughals, nor under the control of the British. The Bhutanese practiced slavery, but not according to any precepts of the caste system. Bottom line: Bhutanese history doesn't merge well with Indian history.

Of course I have left the "See also" link to History of South Asia, no problem with it as a link, only as the primary navigational guide to Bhutan's history. technopilgrim 04:55, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be appropriate to add some modern history such as the removal of Bhutanese of Nepali ancestry? This would seem to bring what is an otherwise thorough article up to date. Encyclopedia1742 (talk) 21:25, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Almost completely copied from one source[edit]

While the primary source referenced is public domain, I'm not sure how appropriate it is to copy that source wholesale into Wikipedia. I don't know enough about Bhutan to fix this, but I think the content should be adjusted to be less of a regurgitation of the Library of Congress. aremisasling (talk) 19:22, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Prehistory[edit]

Prehistory I can't find a source for the 11,000 years ago stone tools claim, nor the Indus Valley Civilisation claim. Is there one? I note the citation needed and the dubious tag. If there's no source, I'm suggesting the following change:

Charcoal near glaciers in northwestern Bhutan, almost certainly as a result of human activity, has been dated to as early as 4700 BC. Pollen in lake sediments, found in the same study, reveals a "drastic change from natural to human-induced vegetation around 2550 BC"^[1].

Reference is to the History of Bhutan by Phuntsho, which is already cited on the page.

Change dating system to Common Era[edit]

I will be changing the dating system on this article away from the biased, Christian based AD/BC to the common era system. This will bring the article into alignment with secular usage such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_India. If you object, please state why you are ok with the biased system here.
