Knighthood

As Evans is now an American citizen, the title will be honorific and he will not be entitled to call himself 'Sir', though the press seem to be using it for some reason. I propose to remove 'Sir' from the beginning of the article. A.P. Cross (talk) 10:49, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

A very late response, I know, but no. He is still a British subject and still perfectly entitled to use his knighthood. The United States may be arrogant enough to demand sole citizenship, but other countries are not required to respect these ludicrous claims and do not do so. Potential Edit War

I removed an BLP violating edit by an editor who has already been warned for WP:Edit Warring, and whose disruptive editing has caused Bend Not Break to be semi-protected. My edit was reverted by an IP, which I subsequently reverted. I fully expect this to turn into an Edit War. I will request that other Wikipedians watchlist this page. I restored my edit that was removed by Van Harris. He is a biased partisan in the whole controversy and has threatened others who disagreed with him. All of my contribution is properly sourced, and most of it is based on an article written by Harold Evans himself. Just reverted another IP reversion. This is the fourth roundtrip (posting/removing) cycle for the same stuff in 4 days. Since this article seems to be becoming an attractive nuisance for WP:SPAs and WP:IPs, possibly it's time to semi-protect it? VanHarrisArt (talk) 20:22, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Place of Birth?

Patricroft or Newton Heath? The former is in Eccles, which was then in Lancashire, and the latter was and is in Manchester. I've seen reports that he was "raised in Eccles." Any clarification? Hengistmate (talk) 12:03, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

Missing info?

I suspect some text has gone missing. We jump from him just starting at the Northern Echo to a detailed but non sequitor-ish bit of commentary about thalidomide & the Sunday Times. I can't easily check the edit history on mobile. I have some letters & a copy of a cheque sent to me by him in 1979 on Sunday Times notepaper, so he moved then or earlier.

BTW, he had a reputation for being quick to issue writs and for easily taking offence, eg regarding Private Eye. - Sitush (talk) 21:57, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
