Proof of Genealogy Needed[edit]

According to the article, "His Royal Highness Prince Hamzah ibn Al Hussein is the 43rd generation direct descendent of the Prophet Mohammad." Could we please have some proof of that? Divorce rumour[edit]

It seems to be a widespread rumour, but please don't reinsert that he is divorced without confirmation from a reliable source (i.e. not an internet forum or blog). Fences&Windows 01:33, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The divorce is impossible to verify as the Jordanian court never anounces divorces. We are in a difficult situation; it is absolutely clear that they are divorced, yet we don't have a reliable reference confirming that. We only have a number of reliable references that hint at their divorce (such as ignoring Noor's existence and only mentioning their daughter in articles about Hamzah). Introduction[edit]

I clearified few points in the introduction, namely : - the current King's name / article. People coming to this article don't necessarily have sufficient knowledge on the Jordan Royal family. - on the 2004 rescind, to who it benefited. It would be good to add some further context on this 2004 thing. Was this adjustment unusual and controversial, or expected and due ? In nearby Saudi, succession line is primarily horizontal, and not from father to son. In most places it's from father to son. I edited the introduction so it sounds more normal. I, too, do not wish to engage in edit warring. But edits must not only be accurate, they need also to be clear. This edit is so poorly worded that I am not sure what you are trying to say, and the reason for the change you want needs to be explicit. Saying it is less "polemical" assumes that the original wording is so, and that you have improved the wording. I don't see either as evident. Please try again. The current, contextless intro sounds like a coup occurred to remove Hamzah from the line. The writing makes time loops, introducing the new King in 2004 rather than 1999. Your blank reverts discard the request for improvements without addressing them. Prince Hamzah bin Hussein (Arabic: حمزة بن الحسين) (born 29 March 1980)[1] is the son of King Hussein of Jordan and his American-born fourth wife, Queen Noor. He was named Crown Prince of Jordan in 1999, a position he held until it was rescinded in 2004 by his half-brother, King Abdullah II. Queen Noor states in her autobiography that she and King Hussein named their son after Hamza ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib.

With the death of King Hussein and the crowning of King Abdullah II, Hamzah was named Crown Prince of Jordan in 1999. He held the position until it was rescinded in 2004 by the Kind, the vaccum de facto reporting the title to the Kind's eldest son, Prince Hussein of Jordan. Queen Noor states in her autobiography that she and King Hussein named their son after Hamza ibn ‘Abd al-Muttalib.

His Title: Is he still a Prince?[edit]

He renounced his title recently, but in a published letter the King rejects this and says only he can grant and remove titles. [1]

Of course, normally I'd respect an individual's choice as to his name. But this is in a sense a legal and even political question, and under Jordanian law perhaps the King is correct?
