Question...[edit]

Why is there no clip of Leonard Cohen's original version of the song included in the audio section? For those who are interested, here's a live version, recorded by an older Cohen, from his website: http://www.leonardcohen.com/video/hallelujah Thank you, Wordreader (talk) 09:16, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Easter version[edit]

A soloist sang an Easter version of the song at my church Sunday. I was wondering how to include it. Numerous sources mention the Kelley Mauney version, which I believe this is. Whether any of them qualify I couldn't say.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:52, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

K.d. lang[edit]

I don't give a fuck whether she wants to write her name only in purple. This is the Wikipedia, we don't change our style guide just because someone wants it. Read MOS:SECTIONS and stop this stupid argument. --84.132.148.245 (talk) 18:19, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

See MOS:LCITEMS - "Some individuals do not want their personal names capitalized. In such cases, Wikipedia articles may use lower-case variants of personal names if they have regular and established use in reliable third-party sources (for example, k.d. lang).....". Section headings follow the same guidance as article titles, and her article title is not capitalized. Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:25, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
AGF has its limits, and if someone ends the quote exactly at the point where it starts to contradict him, I think the dishonesty is plain enough to see. --84.132.148.245 (talk) 19:51, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Because it's not relevant. This is the relevant guidance - MOS:HEAD - "Section headings should follow all the guidance for article titles...". And so to WP:PROPERNAME - "... As proper nouns, these names are almost always first-letter capitalized. Exceptions are made when the lowercase variant has received regular and established use in reliable third party sources. In these cases, the name is still capitalized when at the beginning of a sentence, per the normal rules of English." And back to MOS:LCITEMS, as above. Rather than edit-warring, if you need to pursue your concerns over this, feel free to raise it somewhere else, such as WT:AT. Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:15, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So now that your duplicity is in the open, you are switching the part of the MOS you want to rely on? The section YOU pointed out before directly contradicts you claim, why are you silent about that?
I tell you what, if the other editors accept your deceptive behaviour, that's on them. I made your lies transparent, and that is good enough for me. --84.132.148.245 (talk) 20:32, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No duplicity, no lies, and you are edit-warring. Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:35, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As a 3rd opinion, surely this discussion should take place over at k. d. lang rather than here, but it has already been discussed at length and the consensus was lower case. Doctorhawkes (talk) 00:24, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Variants[edit]

I think it would be useful to have a subheading on the variant lyrics, since this is one of the points of confusion about the song for which people would be likely to come to Wikipedia. This is slightly covered so far, but would be good to put the pieces together in one place. Geoffrey.landis (talk) 13:16, 13 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading Lede[edit]

The lede suggested that the song didn't chart until after he died, though "renewed interest" hedges that assertion. In fact, he discussed the UK charting in this interview clip that focuses on the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGpumEYjDAc Martindo (talk) 11:56, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
