NJ Electronics?[edit]

I have no idea what the company does, nor why it's mentioned, but it's definitely not encyclopaedical (I swear that's a real word >_> )... marked as advertising as I'm not brave enough to clean up the article myself ^^

Cleaned up the article wording and removed the bit that sounded like an ad. Any problem if I remove the tag? Pnkrockr 19:44, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

THIS IS NOT RELIABLE!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.221.104.12 (talk) 09:33, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wet or dry?[edit]

Are the appliances used on wet or dry hair? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.78.75.150 (talk) 16:07, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Spam[edit]

This page seems very prone to external link spam, and spam such as changing the brand names in the examples. Let's get rid of them altogether. Scott Ritchie 22:36, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ian Gutgold is totally incorrect as the first man to use chemicals to straigten hair, the person in question was trying to prove a point of the unreliability of Wikipedia. I suppose four years is a long enough point. Source it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.15.224.64 (talk) 02:32, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Link to Madame C.J. Walker[edit]

I think a link should be added to Madame C.J. Walker

Fixed a mistake[edit]

'Hair straighteners should not be used on wet hair because they are specified as wet to dry straighteners. Even then the hair cannot be soaking wet. ' -the 'because' should be 'unless'. I have changed it. Baberlp 19:38, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of Brands[edit]

Is this list really necessary? It does not provide any useful information and seems indiscriminate. Any problem removing it, or at least limiting the list to companies that have Wikipedia articles? If no objection I'll do this in the next couple of days Pnkrockr 04:56, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't there be some internal link to GHD hair irons? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.137.207.223 (talk) 17:12, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

History[edit]

I've removed the history section for the time being as the sources were all primary sources (we use secondary sources), and the information in the section didn't match up with the sources anyway. Please feel free to re-add the history section, but only when it is reliably sourced. Rklawton (talk) 19:10, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

@Rklawton: I wish I'd looked here first; I just searched through 3 pages of 500 edits each looking for when the section actually vanished :-) It's #16 in this article—which I now see is by Andreas Kolbe—the section was at one stage decently referenced but was subject to a lot of name-substitution vandalism and after being heavily cut by was re-"referenced" by citogenesis. I'm about to go way back and see if I can make a decently referenced reconstruction while giving Madam CJ Walker her credit. If that is, people will stop yammering at me off-wiki. Yngvadottir (talk) 20:28, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK done for now. I fished up stuff from several earlier stages of the article, replaced some dodgy references (though the one on Annie Malone's role is poor because her patent is likely a myth), and commented out a remaining unprovable assertion. @Jayen466:, in case you're still looking in here, can you give any pointers to reliable book sources, since you mention there are several? My low scientific literacy may have led me to some goofs in evaluating statements in what I found, and I don't want to shortchange any inventors in an under-respected field. Yngvadottir (talk) 22:00, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wow - and thanks for that. It was so long ago that I've lost my train of thought. I wish I could help more. Rklawton (talk) 01:55, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
