PLC[edit]

May I ask why "plc" is part of the article name? Is it necessary, and why is it in small caps? -- Reaper X 02:46, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No idea. HMV Group plc was originally a redirect. Perhaps the article should be moved to "HMV Group" or "HMV (retailer)" --Mibblepedia 03:00, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HMW?[edit]

Does HMV stand for His Master's Voice, the name of the painting of Nipper the dog looking at the phonograph? If so, it should say that in the article. --AW (talk) 18:51, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I see on the HMV article that it does. Adding that. --AW (talk) 18:52, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

HMV.com[edit]

There's no mention of HMV's online operations. When was HMV.com established; what percentage of its business is conducted online; etc? Obscurasky (talk) 18:51, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jan 5 Announcement[edit]

I've added a sentence about the announcement that stores will be closing/shares falling and such forth, but I'm not sure how to make the reference neat at the bottom! Can someone sort that for me please? Thanks! BulbaThor (talk) 10:09, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Two Mistakes(?)[edit]

Just a couple of things I've noticed. Firstly, the number of stores in the info box disagreed with the article - it said 317. If you add up the various stores mentioned in the various countries in the article, it is actually 379(HMV UK) + 313(Waterstones) + 116(HMV Canada) + 5(HMV Hong Kong) + 2(HMV Singapore), which is 815, so I've changed it to that. That's technically OR, but I will plead common sense exception. The second possible error is that there is a template at the top talking about merging the HMV Radios article into this one, and the discussion link leads here. Is that a mistake, or has this discussion yet to start? 86.173.222.153 (talk) 00:28, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What is the company's mission statement?[edit]

What I want to know is what is the company's mission statement? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.71.156.82 (talk) 11:47, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality; Referencing[edit]

"an HMV radiogram with a Garrard automatic record changer was regarded as the Rolls Royce of radio and carried a correspondingly high price tag. There were to be seen only in the homes of the upper middle class such as doctors and solicitors. They were also popular as a retirement present for long serving company executives."

Oxford Street store[edit]

What is the difference, if any, between the store opened in 1986 in Oxford Street and the one I used to go to in the 60s and 70s, presumably the one opened in 1921? Rothorpe (talk) 23:50, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Two different locations on the one street. The one you used to go to is apparently a branch of Foot Locker now. Keresaspa (talk) 00:11, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. I've put in a clarifying 'new'. Rothorpe (talk) 00:25, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New Branding 2022[edit]

HMV seems to be rolling out new store branding, probably worth mentioning in the article. I dont know the scale of the rollout, see example photos of Newcastle and Wigan stores. https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/resources/images/13090830.png?display=1&htype=0&type=responsive-gallery https://www.wigantoday.net/webimg/b25lY21zOmNjMmY4ZTMwLWY1ODYtNGYzMC1hZDBkLTQxYWM4NGE3NzIxNDo0ZDBjM2E0Ny1hZWE4LTQ0NDEtYWE3NC00MmJhODZhODQ1MzQ=.jpg?width=640 WatcherZero (talk) 23:00, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

JD Sports ownership?[edit]

The pages for JD Sports, HMV, and Sunrise Records all claim that JD Sports bought and owns HMV and Sunrise runs the stores under license. All point to the same non-existent page on the internet supporting this assertion. I can find no evidence to support the claim, only that Sunrise bought and owns HMV. 86.4.64.32 (talk) 09:17, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
