Merger suggestion[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was…no consensus. Merger is moot as the target article has been deleted.(non-admin closure) Qwaiiplayer (talk) 15:33, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Although the merge tag indicates merging this article into 2MASS J17554042+6551277, the other way round would make more sense. It may be moot since the other article has been nominated for deletion. The other article is also not tagged at all, so I'm tempted to remove the merge tag from here, but I'll leave it for now since it isn't doing much harm. Lithopsian (talk) 16:20, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think that we should remove the merge tag from here and place it in the 2MASS J17554042+6551277 article, as this star is definitely notable but 2MASS J17554042+6551277 likely isn’t. InterstellarGamer12321 (talk) 16:52, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why should 2MASS J17554042+6551277 be merged to this one? If I understand it correctly, the only connection is JWST. And there is almost nothing to merge, the whole article is just one sentence... Besides, it seems wrong to describe for example Sirius in the article about our Sun, that would be just misleading at best. Artem.G (talk) 17:46, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Support a merge to HD 84406 given that this is the older and better-developed article, with the name better supported by sources (WP:COMMONNAME). Klbrain (talk) 14:03, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I suggested in the Deletion discussion that the one sentence content of the 2MASS J17554042+6551277 article be added to the JWST article as a footnote to where the star is first mentioned. I think that is the cleanest solution.--agr (talk) 15:34, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Support a merge into HD 84406, in the form of a short mention of its role in the calibration of the JWST. Eleuther (talk) 17:31, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Are we certain this is the correct 2MASS cat no? there is a different one listed under 'other designations' 2600:1700:4BD0:20C0:5107:423D:4FEA:A236 (talk) 09:45, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose - seems the first JWST calibration star was "HD 84406" (aka 2MASS J09473055+6314520), and the second JWST calibration star was/is "2MASS J17554042+6551277"[1][2] - also see => https://twitter.com/cathirame/status/1501045624380489731 (Twitter; 7 March 2022)[3] - seems these two calibration stars are two different stars - and merit their own separate Wikipedia articles - hope this helps in some way - in any case - Stay Safe and Healthy !! - Drbogdan (talk) 12:03, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose, per Drbogdan. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:29, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article proposed to be merged into this one has been deleted/redirected. This merger discussion is now moot, there is nothing to merge. Lithopsian (talk) 14:55, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Should we remove the first image in the Gallery?[edit]

The first image in the gallery is just an old selfie of the James Webb Space Telescope and is not actually related to the star. It should either be removed or the section title should be changed to James Webb Space Telescope Gallery. InterstellarGamer12321 (talk) 17:05, 18 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done - Thanks for the suggestion - rm old "selfie" image - iac - Stay Safe and Healthy !! - Drbogdan (talk) 13:45, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Catalogue and distance[edit]

Recommend someone research other catalogue names for this star and include them. Distances vary depending on which stellar catalogue you look at but most are closer to 2000 ly. 184.166.39.82 (talk) 16:23, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

HD 84406 is a bit over 200 light years away, while the distance of 2MASS J17554042+6551277 is about 2000 lyr. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 07:51, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
