Information in lead[edit]

The last sentence of this lead raises some questions. "As an African American, much of her career was pioneering." First off, it doesn't read well. Also, I don't think it is necessary to include this information in the lead. The sentence makes it sound like being African American is relevant to her career being "pioneering". If the page should include Gwen Cherry being an African American then is should be located somewhere else on the page. It could possibly be added to a personal section. Let me know your thoughts.
