Spelling of Bellecour[edit]
Hi,
This book [1] suggests that Bellecourt is written Bellecour. This makes sense as his name would mean pretty courtyard [2] instead of pretty short (but the latter does not make sense in French... pretty short translates to pas mal court or plutôt court...). - My best source on the subject says "Bellecourt" (Medzini, Meron French Policy in Japan Harvard University Press 1971, ISBN 674322304 [3]). Google is also overwhelmingly in favour of "Bellecourt" rather than "Bellecour" (19,000 vs 200). His official name (connected to his book La colonie de Saigon [4]) indeed seems to be "Bellecourt" though. Cheers PHG Per Honor et Gloria 18:11, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
