I removed this line: "In December 1870 he expelled all Jewish traders and their families from Metz, resisting pleas for clemency in the face of the severest winter in nearly 60 years." I can find no confirmation of this fact via histories of pogrommes in Metz and Alscace, or wider persecutions of Jews in Europe. Granted, some Jews did leave at this time, but the relocations do not seem Metz-specific. My interest is the connection of this "fact" with his wife at the time. If someone could produce the source, I would be eternally grateful. Fact is, I want this to be true. Micah.t.ross (talk) 08:24, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
