Lectures on Gresham history[edit]

Do we really want to lose all of this §? Atlantis, I agree, is an odd, ref, but might it be good to keep ref to Gresham lecture on hist of Gresham? It's not among the archived lectures on the Gresham website (from 2001 only), but might be useful to anyone who can be bothered to acquire hard copy. What do you think? JackyR 15:15, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed a paragraph that said:
Richard Chartres, currently Bishop of London was formerly Gresham Professor of Divinity. In this capacity he gave a series of lectures on the history of the college which made oblique references to the Invisible College and New Atlantis.
Invisible College is a redirect to Royal Society, and both articles cross-refer already - the connections between Gresham College and the early Royal Society are obvious. I'm not sure what New Atlantis adds. -- ALoan (Talk) 17:20, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, should have been more explicit. My suggestion is to leave:
Richard Chartres, currently Bishop of London, gave a series of lectures on the history of the college during his period as Gresham Professor of Divinity.
Ne? JackyR 18:29, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure that that adds very much either. I mean, why single out Richard Chartres (important thought he is) when there have been so many other eminent Gresham Professors. When was he a Gresham Professor? It would be better to include any interesting material from Chartres' lectures and refer to them (that is, add them as a reference). Do you have transcripts? Where can they be obtained? It would also be nice to add lists of the Gresham Professors, perhaps in separate articles. -- ALoan (Talk) 19:37, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh absolutely, it would be ideal to reference Chartres lectures specifically. Unfortunately, as I say above, only lectures since 2001 are available on the GC website, and I've established that Chartres' lectures are not among them. So the second best is leaving the info that such lectures exist, since this is useful to a further researcher. You could put it under Further Reading, if you like.
Establishing lists of the Gresham Profs (right back to inception) is a lovely idea. Why not ask Gresham College for a list - they might do it for WP. They would also be the source of lecture transcripts. If you're not in the UK, I can deal with any snail mail aspects. But the idea for separate articles is yours, so I'd rather you thought through the format before I waded in.JackyR 20:51, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, be my guest. I would suggest one list per professor, with a table showing name, dates of tenure, and possibly a notes column. -- ALoan (Talk) 22:22, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, that was deft... ;-) Btw, do you know of other similar lists of people, before, ahem, we put a lot of work into this and then get VfD'ed? JackyR 01:04, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would not worry too much about AfD - many of the professors are quite illustrious, and it would be interesting find this link between them. As for similar lists, how about the ones in Regius Professor of Divinity? -- ALoan (Talk) 10:48, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Jolly good. Shall make moves on this. Btw, back to Gresham Coll, I'll drop in the modified sentence above, unless you have strong objections. :-) JackyR 13:44, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removed {{Copy to Wikisource}} as Wikisource would welcome the complete will, not excerpts (as previously noted). See s:WS:IO billinghurst (talk) 05:06, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge from Gresham Special Lecture[edit]

Currently, there is a proposed deletion notice at Gresham Special Lecture. Given that the college is known for its lectures, and that the Special Lecture seems to be a relatively important annual event for the institution, I wanted to put it to the watchers of this page if any information there could be used to improve this article. Merge has been completed. Steamroller Assault (talk) 15:49, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Official translation in Greek, from insiders[edit]

Κολλέγιο Γκρέσαμ (it is certainly correct; Google has it usually wrong).

Some proposed changes[edit]

Information to be added or removed: Gresham College's new logo (replaces the one on the page) and new Provost, Dr Simon Thurley, and new Chief Executive, Dr Wendy Piatt. Lectures in 2020-21 are being held online. Explanation of issue: The logo is out-of-date and we ought to let people know our new Provost and Chief Exec, and that lectures are now held online References supporting change: New green/blue logo is obvious here on the website https://www.gresham.ac.uk and you can download a copy from google. New Provost and new Chief Executive are on this page: https://www.gresham.ac.uk/about/governance/ Links here show lectures are being held online: https://www.gresham.ac.uk/attend/ click into a lecture and each one shows online until Christmas

I am getting in touch because I'm head of PR and Media at Gresham and therefore can't edit the wikipedia pages myself!

Best wishes Lucia Graves

Partly done - New logo uploaded and Provost/director added, however, I have not added that lectures are being held online as the article already says that the college hosts many lectures online and because it's trivial information. Thanks for following the COI guidelines. Dylsss(talk • contribs) 19:48, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
