Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... The notability of this article is an official press release by the NPSL league identifying this team as a member of their organization. Almost all other teams in this league have brief wikipedia pages indicating who they are and where they play and are deemed significant.

Isn't this a new team? It doesn't seem likely that they would be notable yet. Notability is demonstrated by publication in independent, reliable sources. A press release is not sufficient to establish notability. The existence of other articles is unfortunately not a valid reason for creating this one. - Mr X 04:50, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Name change"[edit]

Taxman1913 and Miden made a sequence of edits that indicated Greater Lowell United FC has changed its name to Greater Lowell NPSL FC. That doesn't seem to be the case; according to its website, Greater Lowell NPSL FC was founded by Andrea Gauntlett and is still owned by Gauntlett. That does not agree with what we know of Greater Lowell United FC. Thus this cannot just be a name change, and I have reverted the article back to the "Greater Lowell United FC" version; if Greater Lowell NPSL FC is also notable enough for an article, we'd need a separate article about that club instead of conflating the two. Huon, you are absolutely correct. Great catch. I updated this article to address what appears to be a rift in 2016 between ownership and the club manager. The manager, according to the Greater Lowell NPSL FC website, retained the right to field an NPSL club, and created GLNPSLFC to do so. Greater Lowell United FC joined the CSL USA in 2017. According the article about that league, it no longer exists. NPSL, presumably for public relations reasons, called the switch from Greater Lowell United FC to Greater Lowell NPSL FC a "rebranding" here. They had me fooled, so I moved the article to the new name. I made changes to the 2017 and 2018 NPSL season articles to reflect the departure of GL United and the addition of GL NPSL as a new club.
