Burial[edit]

Someone add the burial place of Maria.... dont think that she is in St-Perer and st-paul at the moment... No anouncement have been done.

Maria was buried with the other family members in 1997. Anastasia and Alexei were most likely the two who were discovered most recently. The Russians based their identification of Anastasia on questionable physical evidence. --Bookworm857158367 (talk) 00:44, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

American scientists identified the two missing bodies as Anastasia and Alexei. The body the Russians buried was too tall and a few years too old to have been Anastasia and was almost certainly Maria. Two[edit]

There were two Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna: ( probably even more, but two significant ones )

1. Grand Duchess Maria daughter of Tsar Nicholas I born: 1819 / died: 1876 she married Maximillian de Beauharnais

2. Grand Duchess Maria daughter of the last Tsar Nicholas II born:1899 / died: 1918 she was executed by the Bolsheviks.

Since both their respective fathers were named: Nicholas, they both have the patronymic of Nikolaevna(?) -- there should be two distinct articles on these two with different labels? Right now there is only one article for the second one. There are references/links to the first one which are incorrectly linked to that article. There does not appear to be an article on the first Grand Duchess (1819-1876) if so, the links should be corrected.

Maria's Tonsil Operation[edit]

Maria's birthdate[edit]

In 1900, the Old Style calender fell behind another day, so Maria's birthday is more accurately celebrated on the 27th of June, not the 26th.

There is now a remark in this wikipedia entry saying that in 1900 and later, her birthday came on 27 June new style; it would still have come on 14 June old style, which was then still in use in Russia. Relevance?[edit]

There have been several films, including the animated Anastasia (1997) and live action film of the same name starring Ingrid Bergman (1956). Also, there have been many novels focusing on the survival of the younger imperial children:

The Romanov Prophecy by Steven Berry in which Anastasia and Alexei were supposed to have survived. The Kitchen Boy by Robert Alexander in which one of the grand duchesses is rescued by one of her killers.

GA Sweeps[edit]

This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force. I believe the article currently meets the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. There are a couple of minor problems which should be addressed however. There are citations which appear in the middle of sentances. These should be moved to come after punctuation. There is also no need to repeatedly link Margaretta Eagar. Minor Clean Up[edit]

I just went in and fixed some minor errors. The line about Louis Mountbatten, was in the article twice and I went in and removed the one where it made the least sence. Death[edit]

Someone's overhauled the section on Maria's death to where there is only one single theory listed now. It also makes assumptions regarding specific body identification which, officially, is still in dispute. Is there anyone who can work the other opinions back in there to make this section more diverse again and less narrow to one author's opinion? Name spelling.[edit]

The name Мария is transliterated to Mariia.

Physical description[edit]

This description, "with the great strength of her grandfather Alexander III of Russia," needs a source. It sounds suspect; how could a young girl be as strong as a fully grown man? Better organisation[edit]

The actual biography section of this article is currently just one long block of text that is difficult to read. While this is a problem on its own, it's led to some information being repeated such as Maria and Anastasia wearing similar clothes. I also think the introductory description is a bit bloated but my major concern is the life and characteristics section. My suggestion is to rewrite some parts of it and break it down to make reading it a more pleasant experience in a similar way, though not necessarily identical, to how I broke it up in my edit. On "Revolution and Captivity"[edit]

Karitiz added a section to "revolution and captivity" about a trial being held in Moscow in April of 1918. I have yet to find any record of this and I could not find the reference posted. If anyone has a source relating to the trial of Nicholas II and Alexandra, please send it to me as this is very important information. If not I will edit that section out as it is very misleading.
