Grade-Separated Waterways[edit]

"allowing roads, railways and canals" Can anyone suggest a location where a "Grade seperated" canal junction exists?--7severn7 12:03, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are several I am aware of in Germany, Nederlands, Denmark, and Britain. Here are three links that may be of interest for what is currently the largest grade separation of two waterways: Snopes ; Engineering ; News article w/ low-res photo. Also feel free to check out the Wikipedia articles Water bridge and Magdeburg Water Bridge. I believe the Magdeburg junction is the largest project that distinctly provides separation of a waterway over a waterway, but there are numerous cases where aquaducts / elevated canals provide waterway transport over ground-based modes. Then consider your request fulfilled: the Magdeburg Water Bridge includes "ramps", of sorts (see Google Maps image). Of course, the turning radii for a cargo ship is a bit larger than a car, so the interchange is quite large and even contains an entire town within one quadrant; but the ramps are indeed there! :) --Thisisbossi 23:14, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Railways crossing roads[edit]

This article talks about roads crossing other roads, and it talks about railways crossing other railways, but it doesn't talk about railways crossing roads. Then again, perhaps there is less to say, since there is no need to build interchanges to connect the roads to the railways in such cases. JNW2 07:54, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grade-separated bicycle/road roundabout[edit]

Do not know if it is of relevance in the article (as the creator I am biased), but the depicted type of grade-separated road/bicycle roundabouts are popping up these years in Denmark in the outskirts of larger towns, where new roundabouts are contructed. Gravelly Hill Interchange one of the more spectacular examples, with 18 routes crossing & joining, comprising several standards of road, railways, rivers & canals. This is the first to be described as a "spaghetti junction"
