There is currently a discussion regarding the origins of gospel music on the Gospel music article's talk page. We are looking for any individuals with knowledge regarding the development of Gospel music (all forms including urban contemporary, Southern Gospel, traditional, etc.) to join the discussion. need to add Thomas Dorsey and Michael Harris's book[edit]
This article is in drastic need of expansion and revision. It doesn't reference the leading publication on the subject: Michael W. Harris's The Rise of Gospel Blues: The Music of Thomas Andrew Dorsey in the Urban Church (Oxford UP, 1992). Nor does it mention the northern urban context for the creation of gospel blues. Mahalia Jackson is the music's great exemplar, but you wouldn't know that from this article.
