Date[edit]

  • There was a recent change of the date when the golden age started based on Anker. According all the sources I've seen, the golden age began with Wills and the Wetterhorn, eg (for a few online examples) [1], [2]. I also reverted the list of first ascents as some were wrong (eg Dammastock (1864 not 1865) and some were after July 1865 (eg Tschingelhorn in September 1865). The End?[edit]

Why was the Matterhorn ascent considered the end? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.31.242.232 (talk) 15:02, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, this article desperately needs more details on why the so-called "golden age" of alpinism is so short, and why it is bounded as it is. As it stands, this article looks dangerously under-sourced to me.
