Untitled[edit]

Is it true Murray was the fisrt openly-gay mayor of a large North American city? Wasn't there an openly-gay mayor of San Francisco as far back as the mid-1970s?Arthur Ellis 18:15, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • You might be thinking of Harvey Milk, who was San Francisco's first openly gay city supervisor, who was assassinated in 1978. DAllen\talk 20:04, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • I will delete the 'first openly-gay mayor of a large North American city' from the article soon unless somebody else does, or corrects it in some other way. If Murray was the first openly-gay mayor of a large Canadian city, somebody should document that. MathPerson (talk) 16:52, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

        • What openly gay mayor of a large North American city preceded Murray? Did you completely misunderstand the (ten year old) conversation you just replied to here? Harvey Milk was a city councillor, never a mayor, of San Francisco — but there's no other discussion anywhere else on this page documenting any evidence that Murray wasn't the first, so I struggle to see what else you could have meant in your edit summary removing the claim from the article. Michael Curtis[edit]

What became of Michael Curtis, the boy Glen Murray adopted and made a movie about? K. Hall24.77.212.239 16:48, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not Properly Referenced[edit]

"Glen Murray (born October 27, 1957) is a politician who was formerly the mayor of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was the first openly gay mayor in a large North American city.[1]"

The the Toronto Star article "Reverse Brain Drain brings expert to U of T" doesn't say that Glen Murray was the first openly gay mayour of a major North American City, it only says that he was mayor of Winnipeg and now works for the University of Toronto. Canadianism (talk) 04:08, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Opps. I didn't read the article thoroughly enough. Canadianism (talk) 04:46, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File:Glen murray.jpg about to be deleted[edit]

This image, which is the only image we have of Murray, is about to be deleted on the Commons because insufficient evidence has been provided to show that the Murray campaign freely licensed it so that it can be used on Wikipedia and sister projects. If anyone can assist in providing that information, please do so. Instructions can be found on the image description page. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 13:48, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's gone, although we since found another image of Murray. But still a shame. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:57, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Neves[edit]

Given that gay marriage is legal in Canada, should Neves be listed as Murray's "spouse" rather than "domestic partner" ? DS (talk) 23:33, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure; gay marriage is certainly legal, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Murray and Neves have actually gotten married yet. Can we properly source that one way or the other? (And, in fact, with Rick Neves not mentioned anywhere in the article besides the infobox, can we properly source that there is a Rick Neves?) Bearcat (talk) 08:40, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know whether Glen and Rick have gotten married or not yet but they have been together for a long time. Rick is (or was) a Nurse. What I do know that Glen is adopted. Glen wrote a letter to the WPG Free Press about his adoptive parents - how they loved him but his adoptive father who coached him, used to tell homophobic jokes and once admitted to breaking someone's arm because he thought they were gay. When he told his mother the first thing she told him was not to tell his father. He eventually did and it turned out that his father's love for him was stronger than his homophobia. It was a very inspirational story. The fact that he was adopted made it even harder to come out and more fearful of rejection so I remember that part of it. 50.71.162.38 (talk) 23:30, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
