Misguided...[edit]

...is this edit. I gave a pretty clear explanation in my edit summaries; perhaps the reverted will be so kind as to explain why the Georgetown University Alumni & Student Federal Credit Union warrants a section on philanthropy, which is of no encyclopedic relevance, and a summary of the benefits of membership, which is also irrelevant. Please consider relevance and neutrality. Every US organization does "good deeds"; it comes with the territory and is a perfectly conventional way to make good press coverage. 207.157.121.92 (talk) 19:53, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In general, blanking two sections is the sort of edit that deserves a discussion first, whether or not there are clear edit summaries. I'd start off by noting that the sections were generally well sourced, albeit often using campus news sources. In the philanthropy case, some of that could also be moved to the History section and rewritten as paragraphs. I don't think is unusual for a company to have some sort of corporate affairs section detailing positive and negative publicity. I would agree that parts of the Membership section could be rewritten to be less promotional. Consider adding a notice like Template:Advert if you see this sort of writing in the future, rather than just removing text that has been sourced.-- Patrick, oѺ 23:14, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree that it's not as unusual as it should be. It's fluff. I'd rather remove an offending section than place a tag on it, personally, but I'll take your advice into consideration. 66.168.247.159 (talk) 23:51, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
