Senate Predecessors and Successors are wrong[edit]

He was not preceded by Harry Reid and not succeeded by Barbara Boxer as a Senator. They aren't Senators from Ohio (Reid is from Nevada and Boxer is from California). His father is a Serb[edit]

Serbian Cyrillic[edit]

Who dare to remove it? If there's even German pronounce next to Albert Einstein name who was Jew, why do you remove the name of mr. Voinovich in Serbian Cyrillic??? He was couple of times in Serbia and he is a proud being Serb-American. Like Tesla was, like Karl Malden was. 'Who dared?' Rather a presumptive question, isn't it?
Voinovich is an American, who grew up in America. Besides the obvious nationalism issues that can arise from such things (particularly being that he is half Serb and half Slovenian), it's inaccurate to say he is a Serb. He was raised Catholic (not Orthodox) in a heavily Slovenian section of Collinwood. While his father's name is Serbian, George Voinovich is an American of mixed descent. Including the Cyrillic is misleading to others who are reading the article, particularly when he was a recognized member of the Slovenian community of Cleveland, Ohio, where he was the mayor of a town with the largest Slovenian population in the world outside of Slovenia. He was an active member of that community, both growing up there and as a politician. So not only is the Cyrillic misleading, but it's an inaccurate reflection of his ethnic pedigree.
Your case for Einstein is moot. Of course his name has a German pronunciation because -- he was a German-Jew who immigrated to the US, and Yiddish (the language of the Jews in Eastern Europe) is a Germanic language. And in any case, the Germans use the same Latin alphabet that the rest of Western Europe and the US uses. Ryecatcher773 (talk) 00:55, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

George Vojinovich is a SERB NO DOUBT[edit]

He is member of Serbian Orthodox church in America and recieved Special Award from the Serbian Orthodox Church in the United States and Canada for his "tireless endeavors to promote and defend truth on behalf of the Serbians and the Orthodox faith; In the public forum of our nation's capital and throughout the world; Given on the occasion of the grand banquet of the Second Annual Serbian American Leadership Conference." Com' on people,STOP!Every Serb will become Croat???We are not guilty you have not such successful men!!!Even Goran Vishnjic is a Serb.

Anyway,during the recent visit of mr.George Vojinovich to his roots' homeland of Serbia for the RTS , the Serbian broadcasting service he said in fluent Serbian "We always say "Samo sloga Srbina spashava (notore Serbian quote)",so PLEASE I appelle,stop this comedy!

Why?[edit]

Hello good people of America. I will remain anonymous do to privacy. I am in the 7th grade at Ruffing Montessori School in Cleveland Hts. OH. I am doing a research on Mr. Voinovich due to the fact that I am taking a school trip to Washington D.C. I used Google to find this site. I was looking for a wonderful and in-depth biography on our senator. I was wondering why I can not find one. It is interesting because Mr. Voinovich is such an interesting and important man. It is funny, there is a better biograhpy on say..... Brad Pitt. He is not as nearly important to the state of Ohio as our senator. No offense to any Brad Pitt fans. Croatian origin[edit]

He is a Serb from Croatia. Vojnovic is not a Croatian surname.

The article states that Mr. Voinovich "has switched his positions to vote in favor of eliminating the estate tax." Please cite this, preferably with sources that show two or more differing votes. See also this June 12, 2006 article from the Cincinnati Enquirer, "Voinovich sides with Democrats."

Serious sourcing problems[edit]

There are some serious sourcing problems with this article. Especially in the "Senate career" section. The last half of that section is completely unsourced, and contains commentary and speculation that is not encyclopedic. There is other unsourced speculation in the article, such as what he hoped, and where his support will most likely go. I won't delete anything tonight, but if there are not sources backing up some of this stuff, I will start gutting the article soon. Crockspot, I've seen other articles that are a lot worse. If you'd like, I would be more than happy to work with you (or whomever is responsible for the recent expansive edits) to firm up the sourcing. I agree. Two and a half years later the Senate Career section is still a complete mess. It's reminiscent of graffiti on a bathroom stall. Not only are vast amounts of information given without citations, but it's not even in chronological order. Some of the language is politically driven, as well, such as that used in the Thune Amendment information added recently. This Senator doesn't really draw a lot of fire from anyone, he's not highly visible or outspoken, and that's probably the reason why nobody has taken the time to make sure he's represented correctly. Catholic or Orthodox?[edit]

Clearly he is Serbian Orthodox in America.

Please don’t write that he's Roman Catholic, because he's not. He is SERBIAN American, and Serbs are ORTHODOX Christians. There are NO SERBIAN CATHOLICS. That would be like saying... someone who is Croatian, BUT ORTHODOX Croatian? That just doesn’t make sense. I have no idea what religion Senator Voinovich is, but your argument that he is orthodox strictly because of his cultural heritage is absurd. I am a caucasian born in Ohio, but that doesn't mean I can't be muslim, hindu, or whatever else religion I may like. Your comment is harsh and unnecessary. Is absurd? That means that you have no idea anything about the Serbs. Please be civil? SERS ARE ORTHODOX, get it? There are no serbs catholics. The difference beetwean Croat and Serb, is Croats are catholics, Serbs are orthodox christians. THERE ARE NO CROATIAN ORTHODOX CHRISTIANS, and THERE ARE NO SERBIAN CATHOLICS. If he is catholic, then he is NOT a serb. You are wrighting about something that you don't understand, and know nothing about. A simple search yielded an indirect quote on his religion to a local Ohio paper:

"Voinovich holds the Roman Catholic beliefs instilled in him by his mother but also was deeply influenced by the Serbian Orthodox faith of his father" [6],

as well references to him being a Catholic in C-SPAN's Congress Guide [7], Congress Merge [8], GovTrack [9] and an analysis of the number of Catholics in Congress [10]. A Conservative?[edit]

While he leaned toward fiscal conservatism, I don't recall George Voinovich really governing as a Conservative with a capital 'c'. He was elected mayor twice by a union-backing, heavily Democratic constituency based on his moderate views (as well as being the best candidate for the job), and his voting record isn't cosnistently that of a Conservative.
