Italic textNB: I am aware of the existence of History of English amateur cricket; the article here is intended to concentrate specifically on the match between the two, with a list of results, records and so on. Loganberry (Talk) 11:52, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Where do you get the idea that the match was often of Test match quality. More often than not, the Gentlemen were a very weak side compared to the Players. Had it not been for WG Grace, the record of the Gentlemen would have been considerably poorer, jguk 12:05, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Er... oops. What I intended to write was something along the lines of "though often far short of Test match quality". Nothing to stop you editing it, but since you haven't I'll go and reword that bit that now. Loganberry (Talk) 23:25, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I came across an interesting fixture this year when reading up on Devon Malcolm. Gentlemen v Players at Wormsley (JP Getty's ground) 15 August 2010 http://www.cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/305/305016.html It looks like an amateurs v former pro's match. Could be an interesting reinvention of the fixture. Gentlemen won by 5 wickets. johnnybriggs (talk) 11:55, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody tried to add something about that fixture to this article, but since - apart from the names assigned to the teams - it had no connection with the original fixture it was removed. JH (talk page) 15:33, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
