This may have been at the heart of the dystopian novel 1984[edit]
Spoiler alert!: One of the big takeaways at the end of the novel was (drumroll please) that since all of the countries' means of production had long since outstripped the citizenry's ability to consume it all, the most effective way to use up the surplus (both output AND population) was to engage in unending war, where the products of output could be destroyed, and so, the nations of the earth colluded to engage in just enough constant war to keep the world economy rolling along. 98.201.8.131 (talk) 08:31, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
